The facade is built in Renaissance style with a stepped gable, masonry and arches, and sturdy wooden window frames with glazing bars. The restoration in 2008 restored the building to its original grandeur. Much has been preserved inside, including beautiful paneling, wainscoting, and the exposed construction.

The canal house was probably built in 1685 for Matthijs and Pieter Bartelsz. At the time, the building had a gable facade and was used as a soap factory. Later, it was used as a warehouse.
