Originally a beautiful and characteristic parish house, the building, which was in a state of disrepair, had belonged to the Diocese of Haarlem. Although the developer owned a beautiful property, he initially had no concrete plans for its repurposing. History
The rectory of the Maria Magdalena Church, designed by Pierre Cuypers and demolished in 1968, was located on the tip of the triangle that now forms the Domela Nieuwenhuisplantsoen. The demolition of the church, deemed necessary due to 'stone rot' in the foundations, meant the loss of an architectural heritage site.
For many years, the rectory served a social function for the neighborhood, until the building became too dilapidated to remain standing and the diocese was forced to sell the property. In 2015, the building underwent a transformation into three "loft" apartments.
