‘Rijkszicht’, an elegant double upper house in the museum district
Neo-Renaissance style
This most popular architectural style in the second half of the 19th century is a style period in which the Dutch Renaissance of the 16th century was reinterpreted. Characteristic of the Neo-Renaissance are the horizontal, natural stone layers between the brickwork and the stepped gables, which are almost indistinguishable from those of the Renaissance period. The facade is richly decorated with glazed bricks and natural stone ornaments. The entrance has a porch with beautiful tiling. The large windows are fitted with muntins and reinforce the vertical lines in the facade. The brickwork is staggered and finished with battlements.
The current residents
As a family, we have been fortunate to live in beautiful cities and accommodations in Vienna, Geneva, and Munich. But we have never lived in an apartment like this!
This apartment is exceptional in many ways: magnificent views of the adjacent Museum Quarter or the nearby Vondelpark, a warm and light feeling in the apartment with perfect sun exposure, exceptional charm with high ceilings, and completely renovated in a monumental building. All in a prime location that is central yet quiet and offers good access to public transport to the central station and the airport. The apartment is spacious enough for a family of four, but given the perfect floor plan, it is also very livable as a couple, with two guest rooms for visitors. It is difficult to choose one favorite spot in the apartment, there are so many – enjoying a drink and dinner with family and friends on our spectacular Roof terrace beautiful views of the Rijksmuseum is a real highlight. Having an elevator in the building is a luxury amenity and very rare in historic buildings in Amsterdam. In short: this apartment gives us the Amsterdam feeling at its best!
‘A new level of luxury in finishes and amenities.’
The outdoor spaces
The living room has a small but lovely balcony on the street side. From here, you have a view of Museumplein and the Rijksmuseum. There are also two roof terraces. The first is adjacent to the master bedroom with French doors. The residents use this regularly because it offers a beautiful view of the sunset.
The largest Roof terrace the fourth floor offers a 360º view of the city. Perfect for spending long summer evenings and ending the day.
