I have spent most of my life here in Amsterdam, on this street, in this house. Living and working in the same building was ideal for me, with only 16 steps between my home and my office. The Elandsgracht neighborhood feels like a small village, but a creative and cosmopolitan one. You can do your daily shopping around the corner, there are great stores in the Nine Streets, nice restaurants, and you're surrounded by the best art galleries."

What makes this house so special is the tranquility in the middle of the city. As soon as you close the door behind you, everything else fades away—traffic, hustle and bustle, noise. What remains is a light, peaceful place, a world of its own in a unique location on one of Amsterdam's most charming streets. The neighborhood is like a small village in the city, with history, art, beautiful shops, and friendly people. What I have always appreciated is the contact with the neighbors and gallery owners—it's easy to strike up a conversation here. That gives life here a familiar and pleasant feel."

The Mayor's House
What makes this house special are the separate rooms, the characterful period rooms, and the deep Rear garden a green oasis with sun at any time of day. Despite its central location, it is remarkably quiet here. That's because the Prinsengracht separates us from the Jordaan and the Herengracht from the busy center around Dam Square and Central Station.

We fell in love with the old, sturdy, robust, and monumental character of our house—our house stands tall, as it were! What makes Prinseneiland so special is that it feels like a small oasis in the middle of the hustle and bustle of the historic center. As soon as you cross the railroad tracks, you feel a sense of calm wash over you – yet within a few minutes you are back in the middle of the bustling city.'

What makes it so special to me is the unique combination: the liveliness of the city at the front, and a surprisingly peaceful, green oasis at the back.
