‘Mr. Frederik, with an eye for detail and functionality, has transformed this property into a delightful and spacious family home in one of the finest locations in Amsterdam.’
City Palace
This national monument, dating from 1885, is richly decorated both inside and out. Almost all of the original details have been preserved and are in very good condition. The rectangular floor plan forms the basis, with steep roof pitches and a flat roof with shingles. The building has three window axes and is characterized by cornice moldings that mark the floors. The basement is constructed of natural stone, while the ground floor is plastered and the upper floors are made of red brick. The entrance, accessible via the basement and the bel-etage, welcomes visitors with a beautiful oak single door featuring carvings and inlays, along with attractive door lights. Every floor offers a magnificent view of the greenery of Frederiksplein, one of the few city parks in the center.
The house was completely and high-quality renovated in 2014-2015 under the supervision of Kodde Architects. The original character of the building has been combined with a modern and timeless interior.
Architect W. Langhout
On the first floor, there is a charming bay window decorated with carvings on wooden posts and resting on decorative consoles with lion heads. The window openings have stained glass transoms and in the outer bays there are round-arched window openings on pilasters with lion's head keystones. On the second floor, we find a similar style with corner bosses and a balcony in the middle bay, crowned with a pentagonal canopy-shaped canopy on columns. The dormer window in the middle bay has a segmented pediment and a pointed crown, flanked by balustrades with candelabra columns and decorative vases with pelicans at the corners. The whole is crowned by a beautifully profiled cornice that adorns the roof shields.
The living room is richly decorated with ornaments, paneling, and a fireplace. This room is en-suite with an equally spacious study. Both Rooms over 12 feet high.
At the front is the kitchen/diner with a beautiful view of Frederiksplein. The modern Bulthaup kitchen is equipped with luxury built-in appliances. A dumbwaiter connects the kitchen/diner to the other floors. At the rear is the dining room with a beautiful fireplace and a ceiling height of approximately 3.60 meters, and a romantic conservatory with a French balcony and stairs leading to the garden.
