Into the Future

The apartment is a very tasteful and well-maintained ground floor apartment of approximately 78 m² located on private land. The property offers a perfect combination of contemporary living and comfort. With a spacious living room adjacent to the garden, beautiful kitchen with cooking island, spacious bedroom with built-in wardrobe, underfloor heating, and a lovely west-facing garden. All this makes it a refined home where you will Immediately feel Immediately . The entire home was thoroughly renovated in 2019 with a view to the future by installing a heat pump and additional insulation measures. This results in an energy label A. Careful consideration has been given to the layout and optimization of the Floor area, taking into account the possibility of creating a second bedroom.  I myself have a soft spot for Amsterdam West, where I also live. The neighborhood has a great dynamic and good amenities. The Hoofdweg, Jan van Galenstraat, Mercatorplein, and Jan Evertsenstraat, among others, offer a variety of shops, specialty stores, and caterers. In addition, there are several good restaurants and cozy cafes in the neighborhood.

Architecture

This contemporary ground floor apartment is part of a building constructed in 1932. The houses in the street and immediate surroundings were built in the Amsterdam School architectural style. Everything revolves around the exterior form, which is sturdy and solid. Characteristic of this architectural style are the red bricks and large bay windows. Architectural firm Gulden & Geldmaker designed the block at Orteliusstraat 307–313, consisting of a larger complex of 30 residences over 10 plots. Gulden & Geldmaker's house designs were sober, almost massive, symmetrical, and virtually without decoration. Between 1924 and 1930, they collaborated extensively with architect J.M. van der Mey. Van der Mey provided the design for the facade, while Gulden & Geldmaker drew the floor plans. This resulted in less austere facades with slightly more detail. The interior of the house underwent extensive renovation in 2019, which was carried out with great care and taste. This is reflected in, among other things, the choice of materials, the finish of the extension, and the beautifully landscaped garden. The lighting was also carefully considered and optimized by installing a skylight in the extension. The house has been made completely sustainable, a heat pump with boiler has been installed, most of the flooring has been replaced, a stylish extension has been built, the plumbing and electrical systems have been renewed, and, of course, a new kitchen and bathroom have been installed.

What the residents will miss

The 'velvet end' is the greenest and most beautiful part of Orteliusstraat. We have enjoyed living here for over five years, with pleasant and friendly neighbors and a pleasant group of residents in the homeowners' association. With Erasmuspark and Rembrandtpark around the corner, you have two parks within walking distance where you can exercise, drink coffee, swim, and barbecue. And if you need to leave the city by car, you are Immediately the ring road. In the morning, you can sit in the sun on the bench at the front of the house with a cup of coffee, and in the afternoon, you can read a book or have a drink in the garden. The garden feels very private thanks to the trees and greenery. The house has a very nice open and light layout, with the kitchen island as the attractive centerpiece of the home. We have eaten at this island more often than at the dining table, where you can sit down while cooking. In the end, we never added the second bedroom, which means there is a lot of space and light in the house. But if the time comes for that extra bedroom, all the preparations have already been made to add it without demolition or major renovation.

Fort Nine Bakery

At Fort negen in De Baarsjes, you can see how bread is baked. While you eat your freshly baked croissant, you can watch the bakers passionately kneading dough on the flour-covered workbenches in the shop and in front of the display window. The bakers use a traditional method of bread making, with the sourdough bread rising for no less than 26 hours. This ensures a delicious crispy crust and a soft inside. They only use organic products and make everything by hand. Another fun thing is that you can take a workshop on making sourdough bread or croissants.

A fun and cozy bar in De Baarsjes where you can enjoy a bite to eat, a drink, or a pub quiz on Monday evenings. The owners of Visbar Beet took over the business in November 2019 but wanted to preserve the "old" Bar Baarsh. So it's still the same cozy restaurant we're used to. The kitchen is open daily from 10:00 a.m. to 10:00 p.m. for breakfast, lunch, drinks, and dinner. For lunch, you can choose from various dishes such as grilled vegetables with sweet potato chipotle cream or avocado mash with avocado, egg, and tomato. Daalder (*)

Chef Huwaë's Indonesian roots and Asian influences spice up his inventiveness. He does not shy away from contrasting flavors. This chef's talent lies in the harmony he achieves with such combinations. Sometimes he is a little more classic, such as with a perfectly cooked langoustine served with a butter sauce enriched with champagne, orange, and Grand Marnier. Subtle, intense, explosive. Totally Dennis Huwaë. Daalder has 1 Michelin star.

Bon Burger

Bon Burger is the new venture from Freek Kattenberg, known for Bottleshop in East Amsterdam, who brings together his love of burgers and natural wine with this concept. After years of successful burger pop-ups at Bottleshop, he decided it was time for a permanent location in West Amsterdam, on the popular deck on Jacob van Lennepkade. Kattenberg believes that doing something as simple as a hamburger well is a craft, and this is reflected in his focus on grilling technique and quality. The meat comes from Dutch dual-purpose cows, which first lived as dairy cows and are therefore more sustainable and flavorful. Bon Burger feels like a relaxed neighborhood spot where connoisseurs and curious passers-by come together for burgers, wine, and long evenings by the water.

Vitalente Café

Café Vita Lente was opened by Simon Witmaar, former owner of the Michelin-starred restaurant Coulisse, which he ran together with Tim van der Molen. With Vita Lente, he deliberately chose something completely different: not fine dining, but a café where spontaneity and freedom are central. Bas Holthuizen, who came over from Coulisse, is in charge of the kitchen, where he cooks in a more relaxed format with hot and cold dishes that you can order throughout the day. The concept revolves around the Italian idea of 'vita lenta', slow living, where you can walk in at any time from 11:30 a.m. and stay as long as you like.
