History and future
De Kromme Waal is a street in the city center between the Binnenkant and the Oude Waal. The name was only used from the eighteenth century onwards; before that, Waalburgwal and Oude Waal were used for this part. The (original) houses were built between 1605 and 1625. The stately mansion at Number is a national monument and dates from the early 17th century. Until 1900,thefront part of the house was used as a warehouse and the rear part as a merchant's residence. Many historical stylistic elements are still intact or have been restored, such as the facade under a straight cornice and the historic stucco ceiling in the hall.
This authentic canal house has been transformed into turnkey apartments with stunning views of the Oude Waal and the historic Amrath Hotel.

Neighborhood guide
The Lastage is an old neighborhood in the Local authority . The neighborhood is located between the Geldersekade and the Oudeschans, east of and outside the walls of themedieval city. The name Lastage first appeared in 1342 and remained in use until the eighteenth century. De Lastage consists of land that originally silted up outside the Zeedijk and stretches between Nieuwmarkt and Oudeschans. Initially, shipyards, warehouses, and slipways were established here. Everything needed for ballasting, unloading, and loading ships was made here. Today, the area is known as the Nieuwmarktbuurt.
