Spotlight: Casa Calòre. Sprezzature in Amsterdam South
Casa Calòre
The name of the house refers to the seemingly effortless elegance of Waalstraat 68. The beautiful Italian term "sprezzatura" sums up the refinement of the house. The design is exceptionally tasteful and the materials used are well balanced. The natural materials, such as linen wallpaper, walnut wood, and authentic oak, give the whole a timeless atmosphere with a 1970s vibe. You Immediately notice Immediately the house embraces its residents and allows them to enjoy the light and the layout of the rooms in a wonderfully carefree manner. In addition, the house is located in one of the nicest neighborhoods in Amsterdam, with many green squares, wide streets, and the Amsterdam School style from the 1920s and 1930s, which can be seen on every corner and in the details.

Architecture
The house is located in the Rivierenbuurt neighborhood, known for its buildings from the 1920s and 1930s. The houses were built to be functional, with features such as built-in cupboards, en suite doors, and plenty of living space on the upper floor. On the outside, the understated architecture often reveals its refined richness through beautiful stone sculptures and repetitive decorations and embellishments on the facades. If you look closely, you will recognize a beautiful architectural story that is almost 100 years old.
What the residents will miss
Four years ago, we bought this house, which was still occupied by students at the time and was in urgent need of renovation. We see challenges as opportunities, so we demolished everything and rebuilt it from scratch to create the perfect layout. We completely demolished the house to create the perfect layout, so that the spacious 9-meter-wide living room overlooks the sunny garden. This makes our house unique in the neighborhood. With three bedrooms, two Bathrooms, a separate office, and a large living room with an open kitchen, dining room, and living room, there is plenty of space and light. Because we both work a lot, we wanted a house that radiates tranquility. During vacations, we often asked ourselves, "Why can't we have this at home?" We incorporated this idea into our design. We are big fans of design and collect art. Our house is equipped with luxury design brands and technological gadgets, such as sophisticated Buster and Punch switches, a futuristic Japanese toilet, and high-quality Gaggenau appliances. The combination of dark wooden floors, linen wallpaper, walnut oak, marble, and warm colors gives it a timeless look. Our favorite place in the house is the dining room. We chose to have the extension built below ground level, which allowed us to create a cozy sunken seating area with a marble mosaic floor like in French bistros. In the summer, the doors can be opened completely, allowing the inside and outside to merge seamlessly. The green view from the living room is a rare advantage in Amsterdam. We also appreciate the cozy atmosphere of the neighborhood. Maasstraat is just a stone's throw away, with the best bakery, butcher, and greengrocer. In the summer, it's a short walk to the Amstel for a refreshing glass of wine or a stroll along the water. Parking is easy in front of the door, and the A1 and A2 highways are quickly accessible. The tram and bus stops are 30 meters away. We will miss both the house and the neighborhood. It offers comfort, luxury, and a warm community that always made us feel at home. Our favorite places in the neighborhood are TOET for cakes, van Vessem for bread, Grammes for croissants, Slager ten Wolde for meat, Lemonode Concept Store for gifts, Arrebol for wine, and IJsland for ice cream.
