The 37th edition of PAN Amsterdam, an eclectic fair for art, antiques and design, will take place from Sunday 24 November to Sunday 1 December 2024. Approximately 125 established art dealers, antique dealers and gallery owners will present a versatile, high-quality range of art that covers more than 5,000 years of art history and is visited annually by more than 40,000 art buyers and enthusiasts. Foam is a photography museum that usually presents several exhibitions at the same time. The exhibitions vary from historical photos to art photos and from documentary photography to fashion photos. Every year, work by famous photographers is shown; think of Helmut Newton and William Klein. Foam encourages young talent and they also have the opportunity to temporarily exhibit their work. The halls have a sleek and modern design and the photos are illuminated with spotlights, so that they are clearly visible. You can visit Foam every few months because of their constantly changing exhibitions.

Museum van Loon
Museum van Loon is located in a former house from 1672 on the Amsterdam canals. In addition to a permanent exhibition with (historical) portraits, furniture, silverware and porcelain, temporary exhibitions are also organized here in which part of the museum's collection, the house, or the history of the Van Loon family is central. Behind the house is the unique garden that was laid out in the style of the 17th century. In short, a museum where you can go for heritage, art history and contemporary art.

Willet-Holthuysen House
The impressive Willet-Holthuysen House is located in the heart of Amsterdam. This double mansion on Herengracht houses numerous period rooms. The name of the house is derived from the couple who lived here at the end of the 19th century: Abraham Willet and Louisa Holthuysen. They collected a wealth of art and objects and had the interior designed according to their personal taste. Even at the time, this beautiful house was considered a tribute to a romantic past. The interior served as a means for the couple to share their taste and prosperity with others. The magnificent salons are decorated in the style of Louis XVI, and the garden is symmetrically laid out as a formal French garden. In these romantic period rooms, the Amsterdam Museum organizes exhibitions featuring work by contemporary artists and collectors.

The Amsterdam Museum has been located in the former Burgerweeshuis (civil orphanage) in Amsterdam since 1975. The museum opened in the Waag in 1926 and has served as the city's treasure trove ever since. W139 is both an exhibition space and a production site for contemporary art. It has been located on Warmoesstraat in the heart of Amsterdam since 1979 and has since given artists the time and space to develop. W139 is a place where artists and the local community work together, and as such has not only an artistic but also a social approach, with a focus on radical imagination and inclusion. The programming emphasizes the need for ongoing and supported solidarity, thus providing a critical counterpoint to the consequences of the dominant neoliberal and capitalist structures of Dutch (artistic) society.

Oude Kerk
The Oude Kerk is a historic national monument and a center for contemporary art, located in the oldest building in Amsterdam, right in the center. In collaboration with the Oude Kerk, artists create new work that is exhibited here exclusively and once only. The program brings together the present and the past through the interaction between centuries-old heritage and modern art. Through their new creations, artists and musicians offer new perspectives on history, the world around us and the future.

Geelvinck Pianola Museum
In the heart of the Jordaan district lies a unique museum, namely the small Geelvinck Pianola Museum. For anyone who has no idea what the -la does after piano: it is the collective name for all automatically playing pianos. The museum's archive has more than 30,000 rolls, all of which can be played on different types of musical instruments. The museum explains what these piano rolls are, how they are made, and who mainly uses them. In addition, the museum can also be used to rent a room for 50 people, and concerts are regularly held there, for which tickets can be purchased online.

Maritime Museum
Discover the shipping and maritime history of the Netherlands in the Maritime Museum. The museum is located in the water on the Oosterdok; this building was formerly used as a warehouse for the storage of ship equipment and cannons when Amsterdam was the largest port in the world. The collection includes paintings, ship models, maps, and weapons. It is the second largest maritime museum in the world. In the water in front of the museum is a replica of the VOC ship 'Amsterdam'. In the barrel vaults under the courtyard, thousands of liters of water used to be stored to provide the ship's songs with water en route.

Museum het Schip
Museum het Schip is a museum about the Amsterdam School; an art and architecture movement from the early 20th century. This movement is known for the strong housing ideals with which it is associated. The residential block in which the museum is located is perhaps just as special as the museum itself. The original post office in the building is special; the only post office in the Netherlands that has remained untouched since the 1920s. The elegant style of architect Michel de Klerk can be recognized throughout the building. In his designs, every detail has been considered.

National Museum
The architect, Pierre Cuypers, had made a design in historical style for the Rijksmuseum, a mixture of Gothic and Renaissance and full of national symbolism. After years of hassle - many thought it was too medieval, too Catholic and not really Dutch enough - construction started in 1876. It was officially opened in 1885. In addition to the existing collection, almost all older paintings from the City of Amsterdam were hung in the Rijksmuseum, such as Rembrandt's Jewish Bride, which the banker A. van der Hoop had bequeathed to the city. There was also art from Haarlem, part of the Cabinet of Curiosities was given a permanent place and the print room was given its own space. A worthy collection, in a magnificent building.
During the last renovation (2003-2013), the building was given back Cuypers' original structure. The building has been modernized, but at the same time the interior has become more like Cuypers' building again, in all its grandeur. Painting, applied arts and history can no longer be seen in separate parts of the building. Everything together forms one chronological story: the story about Dutch art and history, from the Middle Ages to the 20th century.

Moco
The Moco museum (Modern Contemporary museum) is one of the newest museums on the Museumplein. This museum was founded in 2016 and also has a branch in Barcelona. The Moco museum is an independent museum that shows pieces by Banksy and Yayoi Kusama, among others. The Moco museum focuses on contemporary art, such as (post)modern visual art and street art. In Amsterdam, the Moco museum is located in Villa Alsberg. The building from 1904 was designed by Edward Cuypers, the nephew of the architect of the Rijksmuseum and was one of the first private villas on the museum square.

Van Gogh Museum
In the Van Gogh Museum on Museumplein you will find the most beautiful works by the famous Dutch painter Vincent van Gogh. The museum has a permanent collection with Van Gogh's masterpieces and a changing exhibition showing works by both contemporaries and contemporary artists. Exhibitions have been held in the museum by David Hockney and Maurice Denis, among others. In addition to showing art, the Van Gogh Museum also conducts research into Vincent van Gogh and his time. Municipal Museum
The Stedelijk Museum is the place where everyone can discover and experience modern and contemporary art and design. Open 365 days a year. In the building of the Stedelijk Museum Amsterdam, old and modern architecture merge into one. Architect Mels Crouwel used the white of former director Willem Sandberg as a starting point for 'the bathtub' in the renovation of 2012. The Stedelijk Museum Amsterdam has been hiring 15 new Blikopeners every year since 2008. Blikopeners are open-minded young people from Amsterdam who work in the museum for a year to open the eyes of the public and staff.

The Thomas
The Thomas is a monumental church on the edge of the Zuidas business district where religion and culture consciously come together. With its own theater, concerts, and debate evenings, it is a place for meeting and deepening one's knowledge, right in the business heart of Amsterdam Zuid. The building is considered an important example of post-war church architecture in the Netherlands and is designed in an expressive, brutalist style.

The Zuidas Botanical Garden, established as a university hortus in 1967, is a surprisingly green oasis in the middle of the VU campus. Hortus Botanicus
The Hortus Botanicus Amsterdam is one of the oldest botanical gardens in the world. The Oranjerie, the associated grand café, is also an centuries-old monument where you can relax – even in the middle of winter. They have an extensive lunch menu, and you eat while sitting in the middle of the beautiful tropical gardens. In the summer, the terrace is of course also open. It is one of Amsterdam's best kept secrets, definitely worth going to and experiencing the tranquility of the greenery yourself.

Museum Nemo is perhaps the most surprising and fun museum that Amsterdam has to offer. Nemo is a science museum but in a very playful way. You can test all kinds of physical and chemical things, do it yourself, view and learn a lot. This museum is a great pleasure for young and old. Tip: In the summer, have a drink on the roof of Nemo and look out over the IJ and Amsterdam!

World Museum
The Tropenmuseum is a museum about world cultures and tells the stories of the colonial history of the Netherlands. The museum is located in a monumental building from 1926 on the edge of the Oosterpark. Inside, this museum has a large permanent collection, but it also regularly offers new and current exhibitions. The human story is central to this museum; despite the enormous diversity of world cultures, visitors can empathize with each of the stories on display in this museum. The Tropenmuseum is also highly recommended for a museum visit with children. Learning about the inspiring stories and exotic objects is an intriguing experience for visitors of all ages.

Framer Framed
The project Framed project started in 2009 with the aim of challenging the position of transcultural art in Dutch art institutions. This was done through a traveling program visiting Dutch museums, where critical exhibition analyses were organized. Today, they have a permanent exhibition space, where changing contemporary art exhibitions are shown in combination with an in-depth interdisciplinary public program consisting of artist talks, lectures, film screenings, and performances.

Museum Perron Oost
With a Floor area 6 m2, Museum Perron Oost in the Eastern Docklands is perhaps the smallest museum in the world. In 1993, artist and designer Joep van Lieshout transformed the former cattle market platform into a mini park, complete with an empty freight car. It shows the past 150 years of history of this part of the city: there are stories of cattle traders, circus parades, liner services to Indonesia, Suriname, and the United States, Jewish refugees, young delinquents, squatters, and urban nomads. Since 2013, Museum Perron Oost has been telling the stories of old and new local residents in the form of theater, film, dance, music, visual arts, or combinations thereof. The museum on the platform also hosts exhibitions about different periods in the history of the Eastern Docklands.

The distinctive and spectacular EYE Film Museum building is located on the Amsterdam IJ. The collection consists of more than 54,000 films from a wide variety of genres. Nxt Museum
Nxt Museum lets you immerse yourself in media art. Modern technologies are used for art forms, resulting in a very special kind of art. The Van Eesteren Museum is a real neighborhood museum that is run by volunteers from the neighborhood. The focus of this museum is on the post-war architecture and art of Amsterdam. The museum is named after urban planner Cornelis van Eesteren, whose cultural-historical heritage of post-war urban development can be found in the museum. In the Van Eesteren Pavilion, permanent exhibitions can be seen in combination with temporary displays, and in the open-air museum you can learn more about the core principles of Van Eesteren through walks; light, air and space.
