Apartment of approx. 93 m², located on one of the principal canals in the city centre. The apartment features a living room with open kitchen and canal views, two bedrooms, and a central bathroom. Situated on freehold land.
Tour
The apartment is located in the southern part of the Canal Belt, between the Amstel and Vijzelgracht. It occupies a monumental building with a characteristic halsgevel (neck gable), richly detailed with volutes, a pierced floral motif, and an eagle crowning the façade. Attributed to Anthonie Turck, it is executed with a fine sense of proportion and rhythm. Entry is via a well-kept, classical stairwell. On the second floor, the apartment stretches across the full width of the canal-facing façade.
The entrance hall offers generous space, with cloakroom cupboards and a separate toilet. The floor is finished with wide oak planks laid over full-surface sound insulation. At the front lies the living room, with three tall windows and an open view over the water, the trees, and the opposite side of the Keizersgracht. With a width of seven metres, the space feels calm and expansive. The gas fireplace is seamlessly integrated into a central wall, while the ceiling’s white-painted beams add rhythm and depth. The interplay of material, colour, and light enhances the interior’s harmonious character.
A small step leads to the kitchen area, designed with a black worktop, white cabinetry, and all essential built-in appliances. A central island provides extra workspace and visual separation without disturbing the open character. The kitchen maintains a direct line of sight to the canal.
At the rear are two bedrooms, both positioned around the light well. The larger room accommodates a full bed, bespoke wardrobes, and optionally a work corner. The second bedroom suits use as a guest room, children’s room, or study. Both enjoy indirect daylight and a tranquil atmosphere.
The centrally located bathroom serves both rooms, fitted with a double washbasin, spacious walk-in shower with glass partition, a second toilet, and a designer radiator. Finished in neutral tones with understated detailing. Adjacent is a lockable utility room with technical installations and connections for washer and dryer.
Although the apartment has no outdoor space, the expansive canal views at the front more than compensate. The tall windows open onto a scene of water, treetops, and sky—an ever-changing canvas.
For years, the apartment served as a pied-à-terre: a permanent place in the city, carefully maintained and attentively lived in. Under the name Het Arendsnest (“The Eagle’s Nest”), the property stands for tranquillity, perspective, and quality—at one of the most coveted addresses in the Canal Belt.
What the residents will miss
“The view from the three canal-facing windows makes the apartment feel spacious. Visitors always walk straight to the windows to look outside. The outlook over the wide canal—with no houseboats blocking the view, but with the occasional passing boat—is something special. You can see far along the bend in the canal, even past Wibautstraat.”

Het Arendsnest
Sometimes a place is exactly what is needed at that moment. For the current owners, this apartment on the Keizersgracht has been their pied-à-terre in the city for many years — a steady, trusted base in the heart of Amsterdam. A place where they immediately felt at home. To unwind after a workday, to welcome friends, to step straight into the city, or simply to do nothing at all. Now they are shifting their focus. Life on the coast calls for a different way of living. Not because this place falls short in any way — on the contrary — but because the balance is changing. With heavy hearts, they are saying goodbye to what they lovingly came to call: The Eagle’s Nest. An apartment offering peace, convenience, views, and light — and a location that never ceased to surprise.
Whoever comes to live here next, whether full-time or occasionally, will immediately understand why it felt so right.
Design Vision
Keizersgracht 704 is a listed national monument with a characteristic neck gable from the eighteenth century. The property is part of a twin façade, featuring ornate volutes, a perforated floral motif, and a pediment with an eagle — a façade design attributed to Anthonie Turck. Inside are original elements such as a marble hallway with stucco in Louis XV style, a room with paneling, a fireplace, and painted wall hangings by, among others, Jurriaan Andriessen (1768) and Johannes Stortenbeker (1881).
The apartment on the second floor was fully renovated in 2016. The layout was carefully streamlined and finished to a high standard, in keeping with the architecture of the building. The living floor is accessed via a well-maintained staircase that emphasizes the monumental character of the property.
The living room faces directly onto the canal and spans the full width of the façade, seven meters in total. Three large windows provide an open view of the water and bring the seasons into the room. The view of the bend of the Keizersgracht is free and animated, without overlooking neighbors. The gas fireplace is seamlessly built into a modest wall, with a subtle shade above it that lends warmth to the space.
The ceiling is finished with wooden beams, painted white, creating rhythm and atmosphere without being intrusive. The floor is laid with wide oak planks, adding character and calm. A small step marks the transition to the kitchen block without disturbing the openness of the space.
The kitchen is modern and practical in its design. The black countertop contrasts beautifully with the white fronts and offers ample workspace. A five-burner hob, built-in oven, coffee machine, refrigerator, and dishwasher are seamlessly integrated. The island adds extra storage and workspace, while also providing an informal spot for interaction between cooking and living.
The residence measures ninety-three square meters and is divided into a spacious living room with gas fireplace, an open kitchen, two bedrooms, and a generous bathroom. The ceiling height is impressive, the proportions ample, and the canal view expansive. Classical details have been preserved or carefully reinstated. The combination of monumental foundation and modern finishes makes this a residence with quality in every line.

Sleeping and Bathing
The two bedrooms are located at the rear of the apartment, adjacent to the light court. The largest room has two tall windows and offers space for both a double bed and a workspace. The second bedroom is also of a practical size. Both rooms are finished in a clean and calm manner, with space for wardrobes.
The spacious bathroom is executed in neutral tones and equipped with a double washbasin, a generous walk-in shower with glass partition, a second toilet, and a design radiator. The materials have been chosen for durability and ease of maintenance. Directly next to the bathroom is a separate storage room with the technical installations and connections for washing machine and dryer.
The apartment does not have a balcony or terrace, but the view at the front more than compensates. Three large windows overlook the Keizersgracht and offer views of the stately row of façades, the water, and the greenery along the quay. Due to the location on the second floor, the view is open, with both morning and afternoon light streaming in. When the windows are opened, the sound of the city is present, yet at the same time the tranquility that characterizes this part of the canal is also experienced. Throughout the entire apartment lies a wide oak floor with sound insulation beneath it, providing comfort and calm in all rooms.
