neighborhood guide
From an industrial area with windmills to a city district with rich architecture: the Vondelbuurt as we know it today has undergone an enormous transition since the 19th century. The neighborhood is named after the poet Joost van den Vondel. It is characterized by its many architectural styles, such as the neoclassical building of the Hollandsche Manege and the Zevenlandenhuizen, built in seven different styles that refer to specific countries. The allure of Vondelstraat and Romer Visscherstraat on the park is undeniable. Boot camps, picnics, paddling—it's all possible in Vondelpark. This is the green heart of the city, where everyone comes together and differences in status background fade away. The sun-drenched terrace of the Renaissance-style Vondelpark pavilion, now Vondelpark 3, is a wonderful place for drinks or dinner. This is the neighborhood for anyone who loves well-built, spacious residences to the city, with the Overtoom as the main thoroughfare and the Helmersbuurt neighborhood for all amenities.
