The building at Sluisstraat 32 dates from 1912 and is a fine example of early 20th-century Amsterdam urban architecture. Designed by architect Zikking, the building is characterized by its careful composition, traditional brickwork, and refined detailing, which has remained impressively intact to this day. The façade is constructed of warm red brick, with subtle natural stone accents and characteristic roll layers above the window openings. The vertical articulation, high window ratios, and rhythmic placement of balconies give the building a stately yet understated appearance. Ornamentation is used sparingly and primarily reinforces the cohesion and elegance of the whole.

Seven years ago, we moved in together here, for the first time in Amsterdam. In the summer, we often sat with our folding chairs by the water, with a blanket in Vondelpark or on the terrace of one of the cozy cafés in the neighborhood. And when we went on vacation, we were at Schiphol Airport in no time with bus line 397. In terms of public transportation, it is a perfect base, with multiple connections to all parts of the city and beyond.
The living room is definitely the best place to be. Whether it's in the summer with the French doors open, or in the winter, cozy in the corner on the couch. We have made many wonderful memories at the large dining table: dinners, drinks, and game nights with friends.
As far as we're concerned, the location is ideal: a quiet street with liveliness just around the corner. Schinkelhaven is always fun, with its spacious terrace, delicious specialty beers, and pub quizzes. And if you like specialty beer, there's plenty of choice, because the Belgian cafés Gent aan de Schinkel and Van Mechelen are also just around the corner.
We now need more space and are moving out of the city. We will miss this place, where everything is within easy reach. The luxury of not really having to leave your neighborhood.
