SCHIERSTINS No. 85
As a real estate agency, we handle the sale of a diverse range of properties. As an agent, this variety is both challenging and rewarding, providing a comprehensive view of the entire housing market in Amsterdam. Personally, I have had the pleasure of selling many older rental properties in the area on behalf of our professional clients. The potential and practical layouts are very appealing. The neighborhood’s dynamic is very pleasant, and the (sports) facilities are excellent. A wide range of shops, specialty stores, and delis can be found at locations such as Gelderlandplein, Zuidas, and Beethovenstraat. Additionally, there are numerous great restaurants and cozy cafés in the area.
The apartment at Schierstins 85, which we are selling as an agency, is a well-laid-out apartment in the sought-after and green Buitenveldert neighborhood. The property offers great potential and a lovely east-facing balcony.
If you are further interested, I would be happy to invite you to visit. Of course, I will tell you more about the apartment. Hopefully, we will meet soon!

The building block at Schierstins consists of 42 apartments and is executed in the post-war modernist architectural style, typical of the reconstruction period in the Netherlands (approximately 1945-1970). The building block was designed by engineer H. van Vreeswijk and is characterized by:
- Functional and austere design: The building has a rectangular, simple structure without unnecessary decorations.
- Brick facade: Much post-war architecture made use of brick as an important material, often in combination with concrete elements.
- Large windows with white frames: This contributes to a functional and light living environment.
- Vertical entrance with glass: This creates a transparent and open appearance.
- Flat roofs and minimal roof overhangs, characteristic of modernist designs.
A commonly used post-war construction technique is brick assembly construction (BMB), an industrial building method applied to various types of housing (low, mid, and high-rise), offices, and schools. This construction type was widely used in the 1950s and 1960s as an efficient and affordable solution for the rapidly growing urban population.
In the assembly construction method, prefabricated concrete wall elements—either half or full floor height—are assembled on-site using a crane, together with brick floor slabs. This entire structure is enveloped by fully prefabricated facade elements (half floor height), made up of a cavity construction with a concrete inner leaf and an outer leaf of mechanically laid brick. This system was primarily applied in North Holland and North Brabant.
The through-living room forms the heart of the apartment and offers a spacious living area with plenty of natural light, thanks to the large windows located on the east and west sides. There is ample space for a comfortable seating area and a large dining table, making the living room perfect for both relaxation and cozy dinners.
The kitchen is compact and can be fully customized to your taste. Some residents have chosen to relocate the kitchen to the living room, creating space for a larger kitchen and a more spacious bathroom (see alternative floor plan). Additionally, there is the possibility of creating a third bedroom.
In the basement, there is a separate storage unit of approximately 5 m².
The apartment features two full-sized bedrooms, both practical and spacious. The master bedroom is located at the quiet front of the apartment, providing an ideal place to unwind. There is enough space for a double bed and a wardrobe.
The second bedroom is situated at the rear and overlooks the balcony and the green surroundings. This room can be flexibly arranged as a guest room, children’s room, or home office.
The bathroom is centrally located within the apartment and has a practical, compact layout.
Enjoy the morning sun? This is the perfect place for it. The approximately 6 m² balcony is located on the east and is accessible from both the kitchen and the bedroom.
