Sonato di Corelli - The title of the house refers to its beauty and refinement as well as its location on the charming Corellistraat. This distinctive, extra-wide house on 3 floors has a surprising layout: broad central halls that gives off to pleasant, high-ceilinged rooms. The house is airy and bright with many windows and an extra-wide garden, facing south. While its atmosphere and character are distinctly 1930s, the house has modern amenities and finishes. The living area (excluding the generous basement) is 258 m². You won’t find another home in Amsterdam like this one; it simply does not exist.
Guided tour
You enter the house through a typical Amsterdam School doorway: a robust and richly detailed oak door, lacquered in high gloss. A marble vestibule with a swinging door leads you to the large central hall. The hall gives off to a generous eat-in kitchen (with garden access), two spacious living rooms, and a guest room with ensuite bath. A handsome staircase leads to the second floor with another large central hall. This floor has four spacious bedrooms, two bathrooms, a walk-in closet, and a study. The house also has a basement with a wine cellar, laundry, generous storage space, a room that can be used as a gym, and a boiler room. The gorgeous mature garden, which is directly accessible from both the kitchen and the living room, is oriented to the south.

Area
Every day, Beethovenbuurt residents still enjoy the urban design stamp that architect Berlage left on the neighborhood in the last century. Characteristic of this 1930s neighborhood, which is almost entirely surrounded by water, are the spacious homes in the Amsterdam School style. The distinctive sculptures of Hildo Krop, who was awarded the honorary title of City Sculptor of Amsterdam, grace the many bridges. On Beethovenstraat, coffee bars and restaurants such as Van der Veen and Ferelli's give the neighborhood a dynamic feel. Olympiaplein is home fine specialty food shops such as Le Fournil bakery and Fromagerie L'Amuse. The Beethovestraat has become younger over the last decade; it has a wide range of quality stores and an array of attractive bars and cafes. The wide paths and green lawns of Beatrix Park, with its modern sculptures and old trees, offer a sense of calm and are ideal for exercising and relaxing. The neighborhood is known for its excellent primary and secondary schools as well as its accessibility to the Ring and to Amsterdam South Station.

Introduction from the broker
This residence is an old favourite of mine, after having advised previous owners about buying it, and advising the current owners about its sale. It’s an apartment that I could draw in my sleep, as it’s firmly engraved in my mind. The unique character of the property hits you the minute you walk into it. It’s unlike any other downstairs apartment. You cannot fail to notice the unusual but pleasing design, which creates a very unique atmosphere. This is enhanced by the numerous features and details. But the apartment also has a pleasant, practical floor plan. It is perfect for a family, for a home office, but also for older people who no longer want the bother of maintaining a whole property but still want to feel space around them. The garden is basically an extension of the living room and kitchen, making it an organic part of the ground floor.
All in all, this is a fabulous home, with its own unique character. In a pleasant location just around the corner from Beethovenstraat, on a square where most of the residents know each other.

Designvisie
The building that houses this apartment is a 1930s design, typical of the architecture of the Amsterdam School. It stretches right to the corner of Beethovenstraat. As part of Berlage’s ‘plan Zuid’, the front façade is built from red/pink bricks, with dark grey pointing and robust colonial windows with solid wooden frames. The original doors and windows in the hall are another real eye-catcher.
The living room on the street side is also a gem. It was modernised using high-gloss wooden veneer panelling just before or after WWII. An old electric convector heater incorporated into the fireplace would have been modernist in its day.
Corellistraat is also famous for the properties on the opposite side of the street, designed by the architect J. Staal. They are light and transparent and give Corellistraat a light and airy character. Moreover, the street is a square rather than a regular street, as you often see in the Beethoven neighbourhood.

A spacious, well-balanced bedroom floor measuring approx. 125 m², with all the bedrooms leading off a central landing. Two bedrooms at the front and rear, with an extra study/office at the front. The principal bedroom has a walk-in closet and en-suite bathroom. It is complete and tasteful. The bathroom enjoys natural light thanks to several windows. The second bedroom at the rear has its own shower and wash basin, and there is a separate toilet on the landing. Another two good-sized bedrooms are at the front.

The Garden
The charming, sheltered garden faces south-west, and catches the sun until late in the evening. The garden is part lawn, part terrace, and is surrounded by bamboo hedges to ensure plenty of privacy. A particularly sheltered section close to the sitting room means that you can also sit outside when the weather is milder.
As well as the space offered by the garden, the school playground close by is a great place for older local children to meet each other and play.

Coffee bars and restaurants such as ‘Van der Veen’ and ‘Ferelli’s’ give Beethovenstraat a young, dynamic vibe. Olympiaplein square is home to ‘Le Fournil’ baker and ‘Fromagerie L’Amuse’. Beethovenstraat has become much younger over the past ten years, with a wide variety of high-quality shops and coffee bars opening their doors here. The wide avenues and green of Beatrixpark, with its modern sculptures and mature trees, create a feeling of space and are ideal for sport or leisure. The area is known for its good primary and secondary schools, as well as its proximity to the A10 ring road and Amsterdam Zuid mainline station.
Accessibility
Main roads to the A2/A4/A10 motorways are easy to reach. Public transport connections are excellent, (trams 5 and 24 stop within walking distance of the property), and Amsterdam Zuid mainline station is a five-minute cycle ride away. In fact, the whole of Amsterdam is easy to reach by bicycle.

We have lived in Corellistraat 3 huis for nine wonderful years. When we moved here, our three daughters were small. They attended the Montessori school right next door. They took music lessons at the Bachzaal at the end of the street. They played on the playground every single day, kicking balls into the soccer goals, jumping on the trampoline. When they got older, they went to excellent high schools in the neighborhood. Our kitchen became a gathering place for after-school snacks and card games.
What can we say? Corellistraat is idyllic: a quiet, tree-filled, charmingly crooked, one-way street, where children play, teenagers hang out, and neighbors greet each other warmly on the street. It feels like a mini-village unto itself, yet it has all the conveniences of the bustling Beethovenstraat: the supermarket, fish store, cheese shop, wine shop, bookstore, multiple bakeries, restaurants, and several gorgeous flower shops are all within a few minutes’ walk. There’s even a tram stop, giving you quick access to both Schiphol airport and the wider city. Museumplein with its magnificent museums and the Concertgebouw is a five-minute bike ride away. Vondelpark and our beautiful Beatrixpark, where we walk our dog daily, are within easy reach. Honestly, it could not be more charming or more convenient.
We love our home, and we hate to leave it. It’s unusual in its breadth; it’s twice as wide as the typical Amsterdam apartment, giving it a sense of airy openness. This is a real family home. In winter, we like to “borrel” in front of a roaring fire. In summer, we take every chance to eat outside on the terrace. We like to invite friends for cocktail parties in the garden, which serves as an extension of the house. South-facing, it bursts with flowers in the warmer months. I drink my coffee out there every morning, face lifted toward the sun.
