The Apollo neighborhood
Most of the buildings in the neighborhood date from the 1920s and 1930s and were built in the Amsterdam School style. The neighborhood as a whole is part of Berlage's Plan Zuid. In 1914, Berlage presented a revised plan consisting of straight, narrow streets and elongated blocks, intersected by a few wide main axes. In October 2017, it was decided that Plan Zuid would become a nationally protected cityscape. The Apollobuurt neighborhood is characterized by a spacious and luxurious layout. The streets are named after concepts from Ancient Greece and after painters and composers. With the adjacent Museum Quarter, the Willemsparkbuurt, and the Stadionbuurt, there is a wide range of culture, art, and excellent shops and restaurants.
