History
This municipal monument on the inner grounds between Filips van Almondestraat, Witte de Withstraat, and Admiralengracht was designed by architect Alfred Boeken at a time when there was a great need for telephone connections and not much space in the city. As part of the expansion of Plan West, this 6th telephone exchange was planned in the middle of a residential block in De Baarsjes. The storage and technical room were on the ground floor, and the telephone exchange where ladies manually made the telephone connections was on the first floor.
