The invitation to visit was arranged over the phone and postponed several times. On the last attempt, it worked out, and together with my colleague, we visited the current owner. A creative, sympathetic, and remarkable person, which is clearly reflected in the apartment. The decor, art, and way of living all mirror his character. The apartment is a former shop space, with a large window offering a view of Amsterdam and a serene garden that adds a unique atmosphere. For many, it’s a dream: not a standard apartment, but something unique. The location, close to the Amstel and situated between De Pijp and Oost, is truly ideal. Now it’s time for a new adventure abroad, with a smaller home in Amsterdam.

Numbers 9 through 25 were built simultaneously, just after 1900, specifically in 1906. In the archives, they are referred to as “Shop-residences designed for four families.” In 1918, conservatories were added to the building, and kitchens were installed, while the front remained a commercial space. In 1980, foundation repairs were carried out using steel tube piles. A breakthrough was made between buildings 9 and 11, and the entire space was used as a business premises. It wasn’t until 2009 that the building was divided and converted into four homes. The property was also awarded the final quality classification Class I (the highest classification for existing buildings) at that time. The former business premises became a garage for ambulances and was later converted into the home it is today. Perca Real Estate supervised the conversion, along with a developer who is still active in Amsterdam. The architectural style from 1906 can be classified as Neo-Renaissance, a style that was popular in the Netherlands in the late 19th and early 20th centuries, especially in urban areas such as Amsterdam. The features of this facade that indicate the Neo-Renaissance style include: symmetrical facade layout, horizontal bands, brick with natural stone accents, and gables. This architectural style was popular during the rebuilding of Amsterdam in the late 19th century, and many homes in neighborhoods such as De Pijp and Amsterdam-Oost display these features.
The bench sits invitingly in front of the apartment, and together with the flower boxes full of plants, it creates an extension of the living room. The entrance is located directly next to the bench. Upon opening the door, the high, bright living room immediately stands out. That’s why the choice was made to situate it at the front. The height is ideal for showcasing the many colorful and striking pieces of art, which perfectly suits this true collector. The Burgundy-style kitchen is located in the middle of the home and features a beautiful marble countertop. The kitchen is equipped with built-in appliances, such as an oven, microwave, recirculation hood, and a five-burner Boretti gas stove. The en-suite doors are strikingly done in red and allow the back room to be used as either an open dining room or a more private office. On beautiful days, the doors to the garden can be opened, turning this space into an extension of the living area. The beautiful oak flooring runs throughout the entire apartment.
A spacious bedroom at the rear, facing the garden and painted in green and pink tones, offers a cozy space perfect for sleeping. The ceiling height here is also 3.65 meters, with additional storage created by adding a mezzanine. The bathroom is large and features a walk-in shower, a washbasin cabinet with mixer taps, and a bathtub. The recessed lighting is dimmable, and even the large mirror has an illuminated edge. The bathroom is finished in taupe paint with large tiles on the floor.
The basement has a large lightwell with three windows. This space is just slightly too low (1.88 meters high) to be included in the official living area, but it is very suitable as a bedroom or office. The basement is approximately 21 m². It is heated and includes a recessed windowsill that serves as a seating area, along with a washbasin.

With an area of 52 m², this garden offers more than enough space to dine outdoors, relax, and fully enjoy the summer sun. A serene place where peace and tranquility make you forget the hustle and bustle of the city.
