architecture
At the beginning of the 20th century, in response to rationalism, a group of architects emerged who wanted to express themselves more artistically. This led to the expressionist architectural style of the Amsterdam School. This style revolves around the external form, characterized by a sturdy and solid appearance. Typical elements include ladder windows: windows divided by a large number of muntins. This architectural style is often seen in residences were originally built as social housing.
The building at Weissenbruchstraat 10 perfectly reflects this style with its high tiled roof, beautiful brickwork, and solid front door. Originally, small shops and businesses were located on the ground floor, creating a lively interaction with the surrounding area. The block was designed by architect J. Roodenburgh and has been designated a municipal monument, which contributes to the historical and architectural value of this special building.
Living and cooking
The communal staircase leads to the entrance on the third floor, where there is a hall with a guest toilet, staircase, and cloakroom. At the front is the living room, which is wonderfully light thanks to its corner location and width of 10 meters, offering an unobstructed view of the square. This room has enough space for a large dining table and a sitting area. French doors lead to the sunny balcony.
Adjacent is the tasteful kitchen, equipped with custom-made elements and luxury built-in appliances from Miele. Beautiful wooden flooring throughout the home contributes to the spacious and warm feeling.
Sleeping and bathing
On the fourth floor, the master bedroom exudes luxury with a beautiful built-in wardrobe and enough space for a double bed. The second bedroom also offers comfortable sleeping space and ample storage space.
The bathroom, partly finished in marble, has a walk-in shower and sink. The separate toilet is located in the entrance hall on the third floor.
The balcony
Immediately to the living room is a pleasant balcony. This wide, south-facing balcony is an ideal place to relax and enjoy the view of the square. Its sunny location makes the balcony a perfect outdoor space where you can sit comfortably outside from early spring until late autumn.

What the owner will miss
What I appreciate most is the feeling of tranquility and the nuances that the light casts through the house during the day, together with the shades of color in the interior. The light is very special, as is the view over the square.
I feel most at home in the living room because it is relaxed and cozy in winter, and in summer I can open the French doors to enjoy the coolness of the summer evening and watch the sunset.
The fact that we are so close to Vondelpark and the water makes the neighborhood so pleasant, and it is close to many different areas, such as the British school and the highway for daily access to the airport.
It is close to the Dutch café and bar Gent Aan de Schinkel and Van Mechelen, great places for drinks and food. It is also close to restaurant Ron Blaauw for great Indonesian food on Amstelveenseweg, which has many great places to eat.
The neighborhood is so easy and safe to live in, with the park so close by and water to walk along, it is a super safe area of the city.
