Huys Sporenburg
Sporenburg is a neighborhood of contrasts: open water and compact building blocks, tranquility and urban dynamism. In this context, Seinwachterstraat 27 stands out because of its location and design. This house is the result of an ambitious plan and careful ownership. Detached, with a clear structure and a rare combination of outdoor spaces. A house that is suitable for living, working, or a combination of both.

Architecture

Seinwachterstraat 27 stands out as an autonomous feature within the streetscape. The house is part of an ensemble of four detached houses, designed in 1994 by the current owners, both architects. The design was developed within an urban development plan by Adriaan Geuze (West 8) for Borneo and Sporenburg. Although the plan originally provided for eighty residences, only residences were residences . This house is the most direct translation of the concept: a closed north facade and a completely open south facade focused on light, air, and privacy. The architecture is modest and rational. The house manifests itself on the street side as a compact closed volume, constructed from characteristically nuanced brickwork. The south side opens onto a private outdoor space, while the north side remains completely closed. Its location on a secluded alleyway reinforces its detached character and enhances the spatial experience. Inside, there is a vertical sequence of functions. The interior is sleek and restrained, tailored to the daylight that enters from different directions. The house is designed for combined living and working and has fulfilled this function flexibly. The spatial layout is consistent and well thought out. The architecture does not follow a style, but a principle: clarity, tranquility, and quality in every line and proportion.

Museum Perron Oost

With a Floor area 6 m2, Museum Perron Oost in the Eastern Docklands is perhaps the smallest museum in the world. In 1993, artist and designer Joep van Lieshout transformed the former cattle market platform into a mini park, complete with an empty freight car. It shows the past 150 years of history of this part of the city: there are stories of cattle traders, circus parades, liner services to Indonesia, Suriname, and the United States, Jewish refugees, young delinquents, squatters, and urban nomads. Since 2013, Museum Perron Oost has been telling the stories of old and new local residents in the form of theater, film, dance, music, visual arts, or combinations thereof. The museum on the platform also hosts exhibitions about different periods in the history of the Eastern Docklands.
