Design vision

The building, designed by Dick Smeding on Pieter Cornelisz. Hooftstraat, features a classical façade design in which the architecture complements the stately character of the Museum Quarter, with tall windows, balconies, and refined ornamentation. The facade is understated and light in color, allowing details such as the wrought ironwork of the balconies and the profiled moldings to remain clearly visible. Within this existing structure, a more modern layer has been added at street level. The use of transparent materials on the lower floors, inspired by the Crystal Houses concept, creates greater openness and a direct connection to the street. The transition from glass to more traditional materials maintains the facade’s elegant appearance. This makes the building (1991) both fitting for its surroundings and relevant for today.

Southern Market

The zuiderMRKT is a small, cozy, weekly neighborhood market. Unique due to its cooperative character. The cooperative consists of members - enthusiastic local residents - who warmly support the market and help out at the market and in the vegetable stall. The members jointly determine the range of all stalls. They buy vegetables and fruit directly from the farmer, to sell them for fair prices on the zuiderMRKT square.

Vleck wines

Vleck wines is one of the first importers of natural wines in the Netherlands. The wines are purchased Immediately farmers in France, going straight from the vineyard to the store. Vleck's philosophy is to interfere as little as possible with the natural processes of winemaking, and no insecticides or artificial fertilizers are used in the vineyards. In short, if you love natural wine, this is the place to be.
