The Amstelhof complex is an ensemble designed by architect J.F. Berghoef in 1951/1952 and built by the Dutch Society for Public Housing (Nemavo). During the reconstruction period after World War II, new industrial construction methods were experimented with due to the scarcity of material and financial resources. This led to a period of reconstruction architecture. In addition to various newly developed Dutch prefab construction systems such as the Welschen system, there was also the long-proven English Airey system.
