Living in Vinkeveen
Traditionally a village in a polder landscape, it is now known for the Vinkeveense Plassen and the unique structure of the “legakkers”—raised platforms where peat was once laid out to dry. Part of the Demmerik polder has now been designated as a “wetlands” nature reserve, where the land gradually gives way to water and meadow birds have plenty of space.
You can do your grocery shopping nearby, for example at one of the local farm shops. There are also special spots, such as coffee shops or outdoor cafes, that outsiders don’t often visit. Head to the market in Abcoude on Thursdays or to the Lindenhoff farm shop in Baambrugge on Saturdays. Vinkeveen has three elementary schools, daycare, and a high school.
