115 Churchill-laan is part of a distinctive 1930s building block, designed in the clean, geometric style so characteristic of this period in Amsterdam-Zuid. The architecture is carefully composed of horizontal lines, warm brick, and a refined rhythm of the facade, giving the building a calm and balanced appearance within the streetscape of Churchill-laan. The facade is characterized by wide windows with slender white frames, subtle masonry details, and a clear layering between the plinth, living floors, and roofline. The combination of dark masonry in the base and the refined brick architecture above gives the building relief and depth. The overhanging facade bands and understated steel balcony railings reinforce the horizontal character of the design. The street-side entrance is designed with restraint, in keeping with the architecture of the 1930s. The low position relative to the street, the wide windows, and the solid materials give the building an urban character. The building is located within a protected cityscape, in the midst of an ensemble of interwar architecture. The cohesion between the facade walls, the generous street profiles, and the mature greenery give this section of Churchill-laan a stately allure. Here, Amsterdam’s 1930s urban architecture comes into its own: solid, refined, and built with care.

What makes this house so special to me isn’t just the bricks and mortar, but above all the atmosphere. It’s a house with character, a playful spirit, and plenty of light—a warm place where you immediately feel at home and where so many wonderful memories have been made over the years.
My favorite spot in the house is, without a doubt, the kitchen. At the dining table, with a view of the green, wide Churchilllaan, where there’s always something happening. It’s a lively yet pleasant view. I’ve spent a lot of time here enjoying dinners and long evenings. And when the sun shines, everything flows naturally into the garden. It may not be large, but it’s very nice: sunny, sheltered, and it also provides beautiful light in the bedroom.
The neighborhood really makes it all come together. It has a village-like feel, right in the heart of the city, with a great mix of people: from young couples and students to families and Amsterdammers who’ve lived here for years. There are plenty of great restaurants, coffee shops, and specialty stores, and everything is close by. You can be in Beatrixpark or Martin Luther Kingpark in no time, and De Pijp and Oud-Zuid are just a few minutes away by bike. There are also tons of sports facilities in the area. Hot Flow Yoga is practically right across the street, there are great places to play tennis nearby, and you’re about a ten-minute walk from the Amstel River—perfect for running or just getting some fresh air. It’s just a really pleasant and well-rounded place to live.
There are also plenty of great spots within walking distance. For Italian food, Feduzzi is highly recommended—great sandwiches and delicious food. Vinnies is a nice spot for coffee or lunch, and Brandmeester’s B.V. on Maasstraat is a cozy place with a sunny little square out front. Maasstraat is home to an increasing number of great shops, and for vintage finds, De Ruilhoek and Mooi2 Vintage are worth a visit. And all of this is less than a five-minute walk away, with De Pijp just around the corner.
“What I’ll miss most is the combination of the house and the neighborhood. The house itself, with its playful character and lovely light, and everything we’ve built up here. And also just how easy and enjoyable it is to live here, with everything so close by. I’m selling it with a smile and a tear.”
