Architecture
The house is located in the popular Rivierenbuurt neighborhood in Amsterdam-Zuid. This neighborhood is an important part of Dutch architectural history and was built between 1920 and 1935. The Rivierenbuurt, part of Amsterdam-Zuid, is known for its unique architecture, strongly influenced by the Amsterdam School, an expressive architectural style that was popular in the early 20th century. This style is characterized by decorative brick facades, rounded shapes, turrets, and attention to detail, often with artisanal elements such as wrought iron ornaments and artistic decorations. Well-known architects such as Michel de Klerk, Cornelis van Eesteren, J.M. van der Mey, and Piet Kramer were actively involved in the design and functionality of the neighborhood, under the guidance and supervision of urban planner Berlage (Plan Zuid). The house on Biesboschstraat has an original en-suite character, but has been optimized over time with, among other things, an open kitchen, a larger bathroom, and tasteful herringbone wooden flooring. The current owners have improved the entrance using materials that match the characteristic architectural style of that period.

What the residents will miss
When we first stepped into this house in 2018, we immediately felt: this is it. The light, the original details, and the warm atmosphere gave us Immediately feeling of coming home and made us see ourselves living here for many years to come. Since then, we have invested a lot of care and attention in the house. With every renovation, Sustainability quality were central, always with an eye for detail and preserving the authentic atmosphere. As a result, the house has retained its character, while now offering even more comfort. What makes this house special is the combination of its original charm and the high-quality materials we chose for renovations. For example, we made the hall more spacious and fitted it with a beautiful terrazzo floor, making it the eye-catcher upon entering. We are also very fond of the open kitchen, which, in collaboration with our regular furniture maker, has been fitted with a self-designed bar with space for glassware. This kitchen was already a wonderful place, but has since become the heart of many cozy get-togethers and dinners. The neighborhood offers the best of both worlds: a nice combination of liveliness and tranquility. Biesboschstraat is just off Maasstraat, and at night it is wonderfully quiet here. We have always had a great relationship with our neighbors, and we will certainly miss that. We will also miss our regular tour of the neighborhood in preparation for dinner or drinks. A quick stop at greengrocer Vork for fresh vegetables, butcher Ter Wolde for a good piece of meat, Vis op Zuid for fish, and patisserie Tout for chocolate. It really feels like a village within the city here, with everything you need within walking distance. The house is a special place for us, where many cherished memories have been made. We will miss the balcony with its French doors and surrounding greenery, the liveliness of the neighborhood, and the warm atmosphere in the house. We hope that the new residents will enjoy the house in the same way.
