Neighborhood guide: Zuidas
The Zuidas
Amsterdam Zuidas is a neighborhood undergoing rapid transformation, where international allure and everyday life are increasingly converging. Once known primarily as a business district, the area is developing into a mixed-use neighborhood where living, working, and studying reinforce each other. Between the A10 ring road, Buitenveldert, and Oud-Zuid, a skyline of striking towers is emerging, interspersed with new squares, parks, and amenities.
With over 50,000 workers, thousands of residents, and tens of thousands of students from institutions such as VU University Amsterdam and Amsterdam UMC, the dynamic energy is palpable at any time of day. At the same time, the number residences is growing residences , giving the neighborhood an increasingly diverse and human character. New restaurants, sports venues, cultural spots, and neighborhood initiatives are giving Zuidas an increasingly distinct identity.
The location is strategic: Amsterdam Zuid station is a hub for trains, metros, trams, and buses, with direct connections to Schiphol Airport and the city center. The large-scale Zuidasdok program is working on tunneling under the A10 motorway and expanding the station to further improve accessibility and urban quality.
What makes Zuidas special is the combination of metropolitan architecture and proximity to tranquility. Beatrixpark is just around the corner, Amsterdamse Bos and Nieuwe Meer are nearby, and the lively Beethovenstraat and Gelderlandplein also offer daily comfort. Here, a neighborhood is emerging that is no longer just about office hours, but about a new, urban balance between ambition and livability.
