Otte

Otte sometimes knows which house a client wants to buy even before the client does.

"Is it appropriate for every client to purchase a house on a levee that may flood twice a year?" asks Otte, who is down-to-earth and critical. He points out obstacles to clients with a very sensible disposition in a realistic manner and prefers to offer something else: "It's a kind of coaching process to figure out together what the right house is for the right person."

Otte studied Economics at Amsterdam University of Applied Sciences and then sought a varied job that involved working with people and being outdoors. "In the housing world, you can feel the rhythm of the city." He deliberately chose Broersma: "An office with a good moral compass. We don't deal in real estate; we are advisors."

Otte finds working with older clients challenging. Like the elderly couple where the wife wanted to move out of their home in the city center, but the husband did not. "When a beautiful apartment in Zuid came up that the man seemed enthusiastic about, I had to be well prepared. I had to explain how scarce such a house is on the market and that we had to seize this opportunity," says Otte, who won the man's trust with his expertise, after which the For Sale closed.

Otte's own distinctive home on Amstelveld has beautiful natural light, a stove that is always lit, and a sidewalk where tea is often enjoyed in the summer: "It's always memorable when the neighbors come by, join us for a drink, and then we all enjoy dinner together."

For a special place in the city, he points to 'Love or Generosity', a five-meter-high sculpture by American artist Nicole Eisenman, which stands in front of the New Court. "It is a Big Friendly Giant with an owl, arrow, and acorn in his hand, representing wisdom, perseverance, and protection, with which the Court is changing the old vision of order and severity," Otte explains: "I also like to break through people's fixed patterns of thinking and inspire my clients to look further, which is important when buying a house."
