History of the industrial park
The Oranjewerf is located at the beginning of Nieuwendam in Amsterdam North. Immediately is the (former) Gembo site, now known as the Noord 9 business park. The office/industrial space For Sale at Nieuwendammerdijk 536 A is part of this.
The Gembo factory, which opened here in the 1950s, was a branch of the original Gembo factory in Delfzijl, which produced water glass, a raw material for the Ketjen factory in nearby Nieuwendammerham. Gembo stands for the well-known saying "Gemeenschappelijke Energie Maakt Bloeiende Ondernemingen" (Common Energy Creates Thriving Businesses). At the front of the site were the soda and sand storage facilities and the furnaces. In the 1980s, the Gembo factory closed, and various types of small businesses appeared on the site. The current users are very diverse: garage companies, painting companies, stonemasons, coffee roasters, and diving companies.
Building
The commercial space was built in 1991 based on a design by an Amsterdam architectural firm. Commissioned by the renowned Italian kitchen appliance brand SMEG, the existing commercial building was expanded in 1997 with an office space that was then put into use as a showroom. After SMEG moved out, the office space was leased to an events agency, Tommy Hilfiger, and film location scouts, among others. In recent years, regular maintenance has been carried out on the commercial building, including the renovation of theServices and installations, the insulation and renewal of the roof covering, and the replacement of the electrical Services and installations.
Outdoor area
The (enclosed) outdoor area is accessible via a gate. The area is approximately 137 m² and offers space for (picnic) tables and chairs/benches for employees to have lunch and to park bicycles. The outdoor area is partially paved. The area borders the inlet channel, which is also accessible by boat.

In the future, the Oranjewerf will be developed into a residential/working area with many public facilities.
