De klassieke Wester
The apartment at Westerstraat 79 is an exceptionally bright and well-laid-out apartment, located on the third and fourth floors. The bay window at the front is one of the defining features of this typical 1930s architectural style. The elegant stained-glass windows and the authentic built-in cupboard in the kitchen contribute to the rich and classic ambiance of the home. Living right in the heart of the Jordaan truly gives a sense of vibrancy. The area offers a beautiful and balanced mix of residents, amenities, charming restaurants, and (organic) markets. You can literally feel the heartbeat of the city here.

The building was constructed in 1933 and consists of multiple residential units and a commercial space on the ground floor. Since 1976, a supermarket has been located on the ground floor. The building was traditionally built with dark bricks, elegant bay windows, and high roofs. The apartment at Westerstraat 79-3 has been modernized over time. A modern bathroom has been installed, and recently all windows and doors at the rear of the house have been replaced.
The living room at the front offers a wide view over the Westerstraat and features generous dimensions with a spacious seating area and a spot for the dining table. The kitchen is charming, with a wooden countertop, classic white tiles, and a beautiful original built-in cupboard.
The bedroom offers a stunning view of the Westertoren and has space for a dresser and a wardrobe. The luxurious bathroom is tastefully designed in a neutral color scheme. On the fourth floor, there is a second bedroom with ample closet space.
South-facing balcony accessible from the kitchen and bedroom.
The property is located in a beautiful spot in the authentic and historic Jordaan, characterized by its vibrancy, traditional courtyards, and squares. In addition, there are extensive amenities, such as the 9 Streets (9 Straatjes), numerous galleries, coffee shops, cafes, restaurants, and various supermarkets. Every Saturday, the Lindengracht and Noordermarkt come to life with a lively (organic) market offering delicacies. It’s perfect for daily groceries, lunch, and breakfast. Within walking distance is Haarlemmerstraat, one of the most charming shopping streets in the Netherlands. Westerpark is also a short distance away from the property.

I have lived in this house with great pleasure for almost 18 years. It’s a wonderfully bright apartment, and while you live right in the city, you can enjoy the sun on the balcony all day in peace and quiet. The light coming in from the front, with the beautiful stained-glass windows, also makes this apartment special to me. And although the living room feels spacious, it also feels cozy at the same time. With Central Station within walking distance, it’s also easy to reach, and parking is convenient either on the street or in the new parking garage at Marnix. I really love the Jordaan neighborhood, with its cozy little streets on one hand, and the beautiful canals just around the corner. And there are so many lovely cafés and terraces for a coffee or a drink, and all those delicious restaurants. And, of course, the Noordermarkt on Saturdays. It’s so nice that you can just walk there. I think that’s what I will miss most about the area — the Noordermarkt. During the week, it’s wonderfully quiet, and you can enjoy a coffee at Winkel or lunch at Libertine. Then on Saturdays, there’s the lively farmers’ market. Dominica is my favorite restaurant, especially the Sunday lunch in the summer on the terrace — such a unique spot!
