The four levels are spread over three full floors and a half floor, together accounting for 285 square meters of living area, plus a 30-square-meter cellar. A wonderfully bright and detached home. The ground floor features an elegant living room at the front, characterized by high ceilings of 3.30 meters and a fireplace with mantelpiece. Tall windows, adorned with exquisite stained glass at the top and white wooden shutters, create a bright and warm atmosphere. Built-in cabinets, seamlessly integrated into a refined en suite arrangement, subtly connect the living room to the adjacent kitchen and dining area. Also located on the ground floor is an additional elegant room, currently used as a study. This space is also perfectly suited as a children's playroom. Beyond the ground floor with its cellar, the home boasts two spacious, light-filled, and well-designed floors, featuring two delightful balconies/loggias and a stunning, bright attic with a large rooftop terrace. On the first floor, a spacious landing provides access to the master bedroom overlooking the garden. This room offers an impressive layout with high ceilings of 3.30 meters and opens onto a beautiful loggia. The ambiance is warm and inviting, with carefully chosen color palettes, a lovely fireplace mantel, and an oak floor. The romantic loggia emphasizes the charm of the original design. En suite, a spacious walk-in closet offers 15 meters of wardrobe space. Both the master bedroom and the hallway provide access to a luxurious bathroom. This exquisite space features a large window overlooking the gardens and is fitted with a generous walk-in shower, a freestanding bathtub, and an oak vanity with two countertop basins and a ribbed oak front by Wood4. All faucets are made of aged brass. The entire floor and the walls surrounding the shower are elegantly finished with beton ciré by Tenzenda. The floor is equipped with underfloor heating. Also on this floor is a second, very spacious bedroom. This room features high windows facing the street, allowing ample natural light. The third room on this level is also spacious and is currently used as a study. Thanks to their height and large windows, all rooms are beautifully bright. The stunning staircase leads to the second sleeping floor. This landing is illuminated by a restored stained-glass skylight. On this floor, two generous bedrooms can be found, with the possibility of creating three separate rooms. A stylish 'to-share' bathroom is available for both bedrooms, finished with the same refinement and detailing as the first-floor bathroom. This bathroom also includes connections for a washer and dryer. Between the two bedrooms, a spacious walk-in closet provides ample storage for suitcases and linens, with the potential to be converted into a third bathroom. The third floor was originally an attic space but has recently been fully renovated and expanded. It now offers a bright, spacious room with a glass façade opening onto a sunny and sheltered rooftop terrace. This space is ideal as a hobby room, guest accommodation, lounge, or nanny’s quarters. The terrace has been constructed with official permits and approval from the Monuments Authority. Le Grand Charme
This exact house, on this unique spot in the street, is truly exceptional. As a listed municipal monument, it already stands as a beautiful example of early twentieth-century architecture. In this part of the street, the houses have front gardens, and this particular home enjoys an ideal position, overlooking the greenery of the gardens in the adjacent block. I was already familiar with this, as we had previously been involved in the sale of the property for one of the former owners.
However, what surprised me – and what struck me immediately upon entering – is that the house has now fully come into its own. This had not been achieved with the previous occupants. With a sense of history and refined taste, the current owners have renovated the home to perfection. The colors and finishes are truly captivating, and I am enthusiastic about having the opportunity to guide this house through the sales process. In fact, this house is a hidden gem, where one finds, once inside, an unexpected degree of privacy and open views. The ceilings on each floor are extra high, lending the property a certain grandeur. The charm of the home is reflected in the choice of colors and the beautiful wallpaper. Offering a total of 285 m² of living space, spread over four and a half levels with an additional basement, the house provides a secluded west-facing garden and a sunny terrace for sun lovers. Living here is truly a privilege.
Built between 1917 and 1920, this property is part of a building block that continues around the corner into J.J. Viottastraat. Designed in the early Amsterdam School style by architect Guillaume La Croix, commissioned by Heere van der Schaar, this national monument features signature elements of La Croix’s style, including the ornate brick and wooden fences separating the front gardens from the sidewalk. The window divisions are vertical, with a striking diamond-shaped pattern in the windowpanes. The roof is capped with red tiles and has a clipped shape, while the facade is topped by a parabolic, stepped gable with decorative brickwork, featuring a French balcony with an iron balustrade. The lower-level windows share the same rich detailing and paneling divisions. The front door has been restored and painted in heritage green and white, creating a bold and original entrance. The house is mirrored two by two with the neighboring property, a symmetry carried throughout the block. Unfortunately, part of the block towards the corner of De Lairessestraat was destroyed by fire and was rebuilt as a less attractive hotel. Internally, No. 64 has largely retained its monumental atmosphere and details, with the owners successfully integrating modern amenities and comfort. The ambiance is both inviting and timeless, beginning with the grand entrance with a vestibule, leading into a hallway with a staircase featuring a prominent oak bannister. This balance between authentic and modern elements is evident throughout the house, creating a timeless, warm home, perfectly suited for family life. The kitchen, custom-made by John Vos Interior, is a remarkable centerpiece within the spacious living kitchen, serving as a hub of daily life. Le Grand Charme, with its rich history and current condition, is truly a unique family home.
The ground floor offers a stately living room, characterized by high ceilings and a fireplace with a mantel. Tall windows adorned with beautiful stained glass at the top and white wooden shutters create a bright and warm atmosphere. Built-in cabinets, integrated into a stunning en-suite cupboard, subtly connect the living room with the rear-facing kitchen. Also on the ground floor is an additional charming room, currently used as a study. This space also lends itself perfectly as a playroom for children. The entrance is impressive, featuring floor-to-ceiling glass doors with stained glass inlays. From the staircase, one can look up approximately ten meters to admire the stained glass skylight in the roof of the house. The basement, measuring 30 m² and not included in the official living space, provides an extra room for storage, a freezer, and supplies. The basement also houses the space where the central heating system and boiler are installed.
Cooking
The kitchen forms the centerpiece of this floor. Designed by John Vos Interieur, this custom-made kitchen features oak cabinets and drawers. The countertop and kitchen island are elegantly finished with Calacatta Gold, laid in a “book-match” pattern that continues seamlessly over the sides of the island. The kitchen is fully equipped, including a Quooker, an induction cooktop with BORA extraction, and a wine refrigerator.
The property offers — in addition to the ground floor and basement — two and a half bright and well-designed floors. A beautiful oak staircase, adorned with a stylish runner, leads to the first floor. Here, a spacious landing provides access to the generous primary bedroom on the garden side. This room measures 23 m² and features an impressive ceiling height of 3.30 meters. The ambiance of this room is warm and inviting, with carefully selected color schemes, a charming mantelpiece, and an oak floor. The romantic loggia highlights the charm of the original design. En suite, there is a spacious walk-in wardrobe with 15 linear meters of closet space. The luxurious, tastefully designed bathroom is accessible from both the bedroom and the hallway. This delightful space, with views over the gardens, offers a large walk-in shower, a freestanding bathtub, and an oak vanity with two basins. The vanity features a ribbed oak front by Wood4. All fixtures are made of aged brass. The entire floor and the walls surrounding the walk-in shower are elegantly finished with beton ciré by Tenzenda. The floor is equipped with underfloor heating. A large, round, illuminated, and heated mirror serves as a true eye-catcher. A separate toilet is accessible from the landing. On the same floor, there is a second, very spacious bedroom. This room, located on the street side, has tall windows that allow plenty of natural light to flood in. The third room on this floor is equally spacious and bright and is currently used as a study. Thanks to the high ceilings and large windows, all rooms are wonderfully light and airy. The second floor is reached via another beautiful oak staircase with a runner. The landing features a skylight with restored stained glass, which brings in magnificent natural light. On this second floor, there are two generous bedrooms, two walk-in closets, and another very spacious bathroom. The ceiling height here is also an impressive 3.30 meters. If desired, a third bedroom can easily be created on this floor. The garden-facing bedroom includes a lovely walk-in closet and a large balcony. The front-facing bedroom, with numerous tall windows, is cleverly divided into two separate areas, separating the sleeping space from the living area. A spacious ‘to-share’ bathroom, finished with the same refinement and attention to detail as the bathroom on the first floor, is available for both bedrooms. This bathroom also houses the connections for a washing machine and dryer. Between the two bedrooms, there is a large walk-in storage closet, ideal for suitcases and linens, with the potential to be converted into a third bathroom. The third floor of the property is accessed via a fixed oak staircase, carpeted for comfort. This level comprises a half floor. Originally an attic space, it has been fully renovated and extended. It is now a bright and spacious room, featuring a large glass wall that opens onto a sunny, sheltered rooftop terrace. This space is perfect as a hobby room, guest suite, chill-out area, or nanny accommodation. The terrace was constructed with the proper permits and with the approval of the Monuments and Heritage Authority.
The property features both a front and back garden. The front garden offers extra privacy from the street and is practical, as it provides a secure space for parking bicycles. The entrance to the front garden retains its original wrought-iron gate, complete with elegantly crafted brick columns and woodwork, detailed in the distinctive style of the Amsterdam School. The garden is bordered by a beautiful hedge and a Japanese cherry tree, which dazzles with an abundance of pink blossoms in spring. The front garden is the perfect space for safely storing bicycles, with the added convenience of an electric charging point for e-bikes. With a minor modification to the gate, the garden could also accommodate a small electric car. Additionally, the front garden is beautifully illuminated. The back garden connects seamlessly to both the kitchen and the study, with access via a wooden deck on the same level. This layout creates a perfect extension of the living space. Positioned favorably to the southwest, the garden is surrounded by greenery, adding a delightful extra dimension to the home. In addition to both gardens, the property also offers a loggia, a balcony, and a sunny rooftop terrace. These outdoor spaces ensure easy access to the fresh air from every part of the home.
