A spacious ground floor apartment is part of the Andreas Ensemble, the location of the former Andreas Hospital. A carefully designed neighborhood where tranquility and urbanity come together. What makes this home special is the width of the floor plan and the double orientation. At the rear, there is plenty of afternoon and evening sun in the garden adjacent to the living room. At the front is a private Front garden, perfect for the morning. Inside, the layout is spacious and logical: an open and spacious living room, three bedrooms. An adjoining room to the kitchen offers the possibility to be furnished as desired, for example as a workspace, guest room, or playroom. There is a direct connection to greenery on both sides of the house and in the communal courtyard garden where children can play freely. Design vision

Saskia van Uijlenburgkade 131 is located in the Andreas Ensemble, a residential area that was developed from 2006 onwards as a transitional area between the pre-war and post-war city. The urban development plan was designed by Geurst & Schulze in collaboration with the Local authority . The neighborhood connects the structure of the historic city with the scale of modern urban expansion. Construction of the neighborhood began in 2008 and was completed in 2011. The ensemble consists of nine residential buildings with over 500 residences. Within the contours of the plan lies a series of communal gardens, laid out on the roof of the underground parking garage. The design of these inner gardens was created by Landlab and is characterized by differences in height, stairs, and terraces. The outdoor spaces are exclusively accessible to residents and form an extension of the adjacent residences. A strict consistency has been applied in the use of materials. The outer edges are constructed in sand-colored brick, while lighter shades predominate in the inner area. This differentiation contributes to the legibility of the plan and orientation within the neighborhood. The residence at Number is located on the ground floor. Due to its location between two gardens, this residence offers an exceptional degree of light, tranquility, and privacy within the urban context. The floor plan is wide and oriented towards both the morning and evening sun. Large windows, sliding doors, and a direct relationship with the greenery make the architectural design tangible in everyday use. In the spacious green areas on the south and east sides of the neighborhood, there are bicycle routes to Vondelpark, Rembrandtpark, and Slotervaart. As part of the project , an additional bridge project built on Cornelis Lelylaan over the water connection between Saskia van Uijlenburgkade and Rembrandtpark. The street names in the neighborhood are named after people from the life of 17th-century painter Rembrandt van Rijn.

Living and cooking

The house has a spacious living room with an open-plan kitchen and direct access to the sitting area. The layout is functional and offers a clear separation between cooking and relaxing, without compromising the openness of the space. A difference in floor level subtly marks the transition between the kitchen and the higher sitting area. The kitchen has a sleek design with ample work and storage space. All necessary built-in appliances are present and integrated into the design. The dining area is centrally located in the room, with a view of both gardens and access to the front terrace. The sitting area adjoins the Rear garden, where sliding doors provide Immediately to the terrace and create a natural connection between indoors and outdoors. Thanks to the wide windows and the western light, this space feels bright and open, even on less sunny days. At the front of the house, adjacent to the kitchen, there is an extra room that can be used flexibly. The space is suitable as a study or playroom and can also serve as a second living room or TV corner. The sliding doors at the front subtly connect the space to the garden, where there is enough room for a dining table and chairs, for example. The combination of an efficient layout, beautiful finishes, and good natural light makes this a place where cooking, eating, and living flow seamlessly into one another.

The characteristic Belgian style of Caffenation is clearly recognizable in the design of the coffee bar, which consists of two floors and offers ample seating. Striking decorative pieces can be found everywhere, but the absolute eye-catcher upon entering is the impressive espresso machine from Kees van der Westen. The coffee, prepared with the Synesso MVP Hydra espresso machine, is of good quality and the atmosphere is relaxed. In addition, Caffenation offers two different types of fresh beans every week.

All dishes look beautiful, without excessive fuss. The flavors also make themselves felt: honest, exciting and balanced. We quickly come across a winner on our menu: perfectly cooked brill with a fresh, salty oyster vinaigrette, cucumber ribbons, almond cream, a bite of fried fish skin and a nori sauce. Equally tantalizing: a perfect piece of lamb from the Big Green Egg, prepared with chorizo and served with two delicious sauces.’

Focacceria

The Italian Valeria Lucente finds the Italian restaurants in Amsterdam surprisingly good, but she does miss the flavors of home. Especially the focaccia from her region. This delicate flatbread, about two centimeters thick, is airy, greasy and as soft as a cloud. Unlike focaccia from other Italian regions, the Genovese version does not have a crispy, but a soft top. This is because the dough is brushed with olive oil, water and salt before baking. Especially in Genoa, focaccia is enjoyed at every meal and that is now possible in Amsterdam.

Amsterdam Winery

Although they have been professionally tasting and selecting wine at Wijnhuis Amsterdam for more than 25 years, the wine house in Amsterdam is a fairly recent addition to their story. After numerous tasting sessions, they were so enthusiastic about the German wines that they were only too happy to give the wines a platform within the Netherlands.
