What the residents will miss
“We’ve cared for this house with a lot of love and attention. The original details, such as the decorative moldings on the ceiling and the authentic staircase, give it character, while the modern elements ensure comfort. Our combination of vintage and modern design really comes into its own here, but honestly, any style would suit this house.”

The building at Potgieterstraat 45 is part of a characteristic row of buildings from the early 20th century, constructed in the popular neo-Renaissance style that is so characteristic of Amsterdam Oud-West. The rich detailing in the façade—with alternating white plastered layers, natural stone accents, and large windows—creates a stately appearance and a friendly streetscape. The classic attic floor with dormer windows gives the whole a charming silhouette, visible from the water of the Da Costakade. This neighborhood, the Da Costabuurt, is one of the most sought-after parts of Oud-West. Here, the liveliness of the city meets the intimacy of a village feel. Authentic architecture, green avenues, and a range of cafés, specialty shops, and restaurants make it a popular place to live for city dwellers who want to combine peace and excitement.
The property is accessed via a communal staircase, with a private entrance on the first floor. From here, a private staircase leads to the third floor, where the living area unfolds in its entirety. The living room extends along the front of the property and benefits from its west-facing position. Three large windows offer beautiful views over the water of the Da Costakade and provide an abundance of natural light. The fireplace forms an attractive focal point and gives the room a warm, inviting atmosphere. At the rear is the open-plan kitchen, with enough space for a large dining table — ideal for long dinners or cozy evenings with guests. The kitchen is equipped with built-in appliances and is functionally designed without compromising on aesthetics. The entire floor is finished with warm wooden flooring, which creates unity and tranquility in the space. The house also has a basement with plenty of storage space.
On the fourth floor, there are two full bedrooms a comfortable bathroom. The master bedroom is located at the quiet front of the house and offers plenty of space, with enough room for a large bed and a generous closet wall. Thanks to its width and layout, this room can also be easily divided into two separate bedrooms, as can be seen on the alternative floor plan. The second bedroom is located at the rear and is also spacious enough for a double bed and desk or wardrobe. An ideal room for guests, children, or as a workspace. Centrally located on the floor is the neat bathroom, equipped with a walk-in shower and double sink. The separate toilet on the landing, separate from the bathroom, is practical and increases comfort in daily use.
On top of the house is a beautifully landscaped Roof terrace approximately 21 m². This outdoor space offers spectacular views of the surrounding neighborhood and the water of the Da Costakade. Here you can enjoy the sun, the peace and quiet, and the view in complete privacy — from sunrise to sunset. A place where indoors and outdoors merge seamlessly, and where city life seems to stand still for a moment.

The layout of the house is very nice. We will especially miss the spacious living area, with its open kitchen and room for a large dining table. We have spent countless evenings here with friends. The ample storage space was also a big plus for us: a closet on the first floor and a separate basement room.
And then there's the Roof terrace without a doubt one of the highlights of the house. It's the highest terrace on the street, giving you an unobstructed and panoramic view of the city. Because it's so high up and has no Immediately terraces, it also feels very private. It's perfect for summer BBQ evenings.
The neighborhood is fantastic. The street is quiet, with little traffic and plenty of parking spaces. At the same time, you live in the lively Oud-West, with plenty of cozy restaurants and coffee shops within walking distance, and the Vondelpark and the Jordaan around the corner. Our favorite is café Mimi in the street — a cozy place where you often meet local residents.
We have cared for the house with a lot of love and attention. The original details, such as the decorative moldings on the ceiling and the authentic staircase, give it character, while the modern elements provide comfort. Our combination of vintage and modern design really comes into its own here, but actually any style suits this house.
We have enjoyed living here very much and it is hard for us to say goodbye. But it is time for us to move on to the next phase of our lives, in a house with a garden outside the city. We are sure that the new residents will enjoy this house and this lovely neighborhood as much as we have.
