Design vision

The building at Potgieterstraat 45 is part of a characteristic row of buildings from the early 20th century, constructed in the popular neo-Renaissance style that is so characteristic of Amsterdam Oud-West. The rich detailing in the façade—with alternating white plastered layers, natural stone accents, and large windows—creates a stately appearance and a friendly streetscape. The classic attic floor with dormer windows gives the whole a charming silhouette, visible from the water of the Da Costakade. This neighborhood, the Da Costabuurt, is one of the most sought-after parts of Oud-West. Here, the liveliness of the city meets the intimacy of a village feel. Authentic architecture, green avenues, and a range of cafés, specialty shops, and restaurants make it a popular place to live for city dwellers who want to combine peace and excitement.

What the owners will miss
When we first stepped inside this house, we fell in love immediately. It starts with the charming street and the location on Da Costakade: from the large windows in the living room, you look out over the water—a view that never gets boring. The house is wonderfully light, and we enjoy the sunbeams streaming through the windows every day.
The layout of the house is very nice. We will especially miss the spacious living area, with its open kitchen and room for a large dining table. We have spent countless evenings here with friends. The ample storage space was also a big plus for us: a closet on the first floor and a separate basement room.
And then there's the Roof terrace without a doubt one of the highlights of the house. It's the highest terrace on the street, giving you an unobstructed and panoramic view of the city. Because it's so high up and has no Immediately terraces, it also feels very private. It's perfect for summer BBQ evenings.
The neighborhood is fantastic. The street is quiet, with little traffic and plenty of parking spaces. At the same time, you live in the lively Oud-West, with plenty of cozy restaurants and coffee shops within walking distance, and the Vondelpark and the Jordaan around the corner. Our favorite is café Mimi in the street — a cozy place where you often meet local residents.
We have cared for the house with a lot of love and attention. The original details, such as the decorative moldings on the ceiling and the authentic staircase, give it character, while the modern elements provide comfort. Our combination of vintage and modern design really comes into its own here, but actually any style suits this house.
We have enjoyed living here very much and it is hard for us to say goodbye. But it is time for us to move on to the next phase of our lives, in a house with a garden outside the city. We are sure that the new residents will enjoy this house and this lovely neighborhood as much as we have.

SILK

SILK is the neighborhood restaurant of Limau Chen, known from nNea Pizzeria and Salvo Patisseries, who deliberately draws on her own roots here after years of working in the Italian hospitality industry. In the kitchen is chef Paolo Manzo, who, together with Chen, creates cuisine that is not meant to be fusion, but rather a cultural dialogue between East and West. Their dishes roughly follow the Silk Road, with influences from Asia and Southern Europe coming together in distinctive, seasonal dishes. Think Asian-style fried whole sea bass, alongside pasta-like textures, fresh acids, and deep umami notes.

Stacks Diner

American homestyle cooking. A modern take on a classic American diner in Amsterdam. Executive chef and owner Kevin Kearney also works as a creative director in advertising. When he moved to Amsterdam in 2017 for his wife's job, he missed having a restaurant 'in the middle'. Having worked for well-known chefs in New York in the past, he decided to open this 'diner'. Now there is also a 'deli' and even 'merchandise'. Everything (except the 'merch') is made in-house.

In addition, the gallery continuously works to introduce international artists to the Dutch public and undertakes projects with young and talented artists to support them in their first steps in the professional art world.
