Design vision

Pontkade, an architectural frontrunner in the emerging NDSM district in Amsterdam North, forms a unique link between the industrial past and the vibrant future of the area. Designed by Architekten Cie., the building reflects the essence and visual quality of the NDSM master plan, also developed by this renowned architectural firm. The building sets a new standard for future architecture in the neighborhood and brings urban planning to life in architectural form.
Located on a prominent quay in Amsterdam, Pontkade welcomes newcomers traveling by ferry from the city center to this "new land." The arrival by water offers an impressive and gradual view, in which Pontkade and the NDSM shipyard merge into one recognizable whole. The variety of functions and apartment types, combined with the growing landscape of Amsterdam and its diverse neighborhoods, enriches the architectural identity of the area.
Pontkade still exudes the nostalgia of shipbuilding. This is reflected in the building's sturdy and rich architecture and the sustainably designed 3,000 m² courtyard garden, in which subtle accents recall the rich industrial past of the NDSM shipyard.

Ice rinks

Once a month, Europe's largest flea market takes place at the NDSM shipyard in Amsterdam-Noord. Be prepared for tons of vintage clothing, antiques, beautiful mirrors, and jewelry. Real stores have stalls here, but private individuals can also rent a stall and sell their own clothes that they no longer wear. Prices are low, so be prepared to haggle and search thoroughly, and you can be 100% sure that you will leave the IJhallen with some real finds. Tip: grab some poffertjes and wear warm clothes if you go in winter, as the warehouse is not heated and most of the stalls are outside!

Comets Bread & Café

In 2020, Kometen Brood sprouted as Lard's coronavirus hobby during lockdown. His passion for bread led him to purchase a bread oven, which he soon used to surprise his neighbors. Local residents discovered his passion and exchanged bread for home-grown eggs and homemade jam. The home bakery evolved into a success with overflowing kitchens. At the end of 2020, he opened the doors of his own shop, and so began the real baking adventure. The fantastic sourdough breads were expanded to include items such as cheese, chocolate croissants, various types of cake, baguettes, sandwiches, and coffee.

Slope 7

One of the coolest new restaurants in Amsterdam. The restaurant, overlooking the IJ river, was built according to the principle of circularity. It reuses old shipyard materials such as scrap steel, wood panels, and ship floors. Dishes without too much embellishment, prepared over an open fire, create the perfect vibe. Examples include turbot with yellow chili and chives or côte de boeuf with chipotle and marrow, both of which are ideal for sharing."

Boon & de Koot

Following the success of Zoldering, chef Thomas Bron, wine importer Joost Clarijs, and sommeliers Job Seuren and Wout Jans opened Boon & de Koot, an accessible wine bar in the Zeeheldenbuurt neighborhood, without compromising on quality. The menu starts with hearty snacks such as oeuf mayo with roasted garlic and lovage, cleverly served so you can eat it in one bite. This is followed by refined starters such as raw sea bass with beurre noisette and calamansi or a coarse steak tartare with radicchio and anchovies. The real showstopper is the dish of roasted peas with tomatillo, olive, and egg yolk, a perfect interplay of smoke, freshness, and creaminess.
