The Amstelhof complex is an ensemble designed by architect J.F. Berghoef in 1951/1952 and built by the Dutch Society for Public Housing (Nemavo). During the reconstruction period after World War II, new industrial construction methods were experimented with due to the scarcity of material and financial resources. This led to a period of reconstruction architecture. In addition to various newly developed Dutch prefab construction systems such as the Welschen system, there was also the long-proven English Airey system. In order to adapt this for the Netherlands and put it into practice, the Dutch Society for Public Housing (Nemavo) was founded in 1947. Standard sizes, standard floor plans, and prefabricated building components were used. The residential blocks are constructed from lightweight floors and the facades are clad with concrete slabs. The ground floors (plinth) of the blocks, which house the entrances with large canopies, garage boxes, and basement boxes, are made of red brick. The windows and roof trusses of theresidences of steel, the roof is clad with wood and has a bituminous covering. An interesting detail is that almost ten thousandresidences built in the Netherlands (between 1949 and 1965), more than half of which are located in Amsterdam.
The living room is located on the ground floor. The high ceiling in combination with the large windows provide plenty of natural daylight, making the living room very light and pleasant to spend time in. There is also enough space for a sitting and dining area. Unique to this type of apartment is the living room, which makes the living area very light. The entire apartment has special PVC flooring with insulated subflooring. The open kitchen is located at the rear, where the washing machine connection can also be found in a separate cupboard. All connections have already been installed, so the new owner can choose between traditional gas or induction cooking. The kitchen can be fitted to your own taste at your own expense. In the basement, there is a separate storage room of approx. 7 m².
The apartment has a total of three bedrooms. The master bedroom is located at the quiet front of the apartment and has an adjoining balcony. The room is perfectly suited for a double bed and wardrobe. The other two bedrooms located at the rear and overlook the large communal courtyard garden. The smallest room also provides access to the other balcony. The large windows provide beautiful natural daylight, making it a pleasant space to stay. The bathroom is accessible from the hall and has a shower and sink.
Enjoy sitting outside in the sun, which is perfect here in the large communal courtyard garden or on one of the two balconies. The balcony of approx. 3 m² at the front of the property, adjacent to the master bedroom, faces east. Here you can enjoy the morning sun while sipping a cup of coffee. The second balcony of approx. 2 m² overlooks the communal courtyard garden and faces west. But the large communal courtyard garden with clear garden etiquette remains a wonderful place to enjoy the peace and quiet and forget the hustle and bustle of the city for a while.
