Sous-Keizer 306
The space at Keizersgracht 306 in the basement has long been used as commercial space. The owners' association has granted permission to apply for an environmental permit for a residential property. The particularly deep space requires empathy to get a good idea of how it can be inhabited in the future. I expect a new owner to be creative. Among other things, they will create height and come up with a nice solution for the foundation plinth and the incidence of light.

Design Vision
The space is part of a characteristic and monumental mansion on the famous Keizersgracht canal. These traditional canals played an important role in Amsterdam's flourishing trade and economy in the 17th and 18th centuries. During this Golden Age, the Amstel river was an important shipping route. The residences the canals were built at the time by merchants and wealthy nobles.
In 1904, the original gable was replaced by a straight cut frame to create more space in the attic. Later, in 1916, the building was put into use as an office with a warehouse (basement).
In 1972, the building's foundations were renewed and the floors were divided so that the spaces residences as residences in the future.
