De Schoone Dame
This former stately bank has been converted into luxury apartments. It was one of the first developments to feature a caretaker, a swimming pool, and an Immediately parking garage. The complex stretches from Herengracht to Singel and is divided into two Homeowners' Associations (VvE's). Thanks to its grand design and central location, it is a popular complex in Amsterdam's city center. The residents are people who enjoy city life and appreciate the comfort and security it offers.
I find redevelopment projects interesting. Old construction drawings show that there was a large vault under the former trading floor, completely surrounded by control corridors. A panoramic elevator has now been installed in this space, while the wide staircases have been retained. It is one of the most spectacular entrances in the city. The fact that not many transactions take place in the building is a sign to me that the residents enjoy living there. Who will succeed the current resident will become clear in the near future.

Architecture
The bank building, constructed between 1900 and 1902 for the Associatie Cassa and designed by architect C.B. Posthumus Meyjes, is a remarkable example of Art Nouveau with Berlagian influences. This architectural masterpiece, with a parallelogram-shaped floor plan, comprises a basement, two floors, and a mezzanine under a transverse gable roof with gray-blue slates. The facade, constructed of hard stone and tuff, has seven bays with a central entrance flanked by wide bays and ending in a tower-shaped corner bay. A series of natural stone bollards with decorative wrought-iron fencing adorns the front.
The building is characterized by rich decorative elements, including a varied window design with latticework, segmental arches supported by polished columns, and an elaborate aedicula above the entrance. The gables are enriched with floral motifs and date inscriptions, while the interior features a striking staircase with an original wooden banister, decorative wrought-iron fencing, stained-glass windows, and tesserae and terrazzo floors. Plastered panels, geometric tiling, and marble floors complete the rich interior, emphasized by a remarkable spiral staircase.
