Neighborhood Guide
The Jordaan was originally a traditional working-class neighborhood, home to many craftsmen and small businesses. Many old garages and shops have been transformed into residential spaces. The area is characterized by narrow streets and charming houses, while its canals are named after flowers. The Jordaan is a fantastic place to live, rich in history and character. This lively neighborhood offers an impressive variety of amenities, including the famous Negen Straatjes (Nine Streets), numerous galleries, coffee bars, cafés, restaurants, and several supermarkets. On almost every corner, you'll find a unique or specialty shop. The combination of traditional craftsmanship and trendy hotspots makes the Jordaan a highly sought-after area. There are also various markets nearby. Every Saturday, the Lindengracht and Noordermarkt come alive with a vibrant organic market. On Monday mornings, the famous fabric market takes place on Westerstraat. For families, the area offers several charming playgrounds, such as the hidden playground on Slootstraat. The Noorderspeeltuin and the one on Tweede Looiersdwarsstraat are also local favorites. De Goudsbloem
We guide the sale of a diverse range of properties as a real estate agency. For a real estate agent, this variety is highly stimulating and contributes to a broader understanding of the Amsterdam housing market. I have a particular fondness for the Jordaan, where I worked for a long time at another agency. This experience has allowed me to better understand and appreciate the neighborhood. The area’s energy is truly enjoyable, and the local amenities are excellent. The Haarlemmerstraat, Westerstraat, and many surrounding side streets offer a diverse selection of shops, specialty stores, and delicatessens. Additionally, the neighborhood boasts several excellent restaurants and cozy cafés. The apartment at Eerste Goudsbloemdwarsstraat 15 A3, which we have the privilege of selling, is a unique duplex located in the heart of the city. The future owner will enjoy a modern three-room apartment with a contemporary character. What makes it special is that, while you are just a stone’s throw from the city’s vibrant energy, the apartment itself offers a serene retreat. If you are interested, I warmly invite you to visit. I would be happy to tell you more about the apartment. Hopefully, see you soon!

Originally, the building dates back to 1890, but it was demolished and rebuilt in 1934. Over the years, various structural improvements have been made. First, the foundation was repaired in 1996, after which two dormers were installed on the top floor with a permit in 2008, and the roof terraces in 2021. The building itself features a characteristic stepped gable, an architectural element that was both functional and decorative at the time. These facades, often built with red bricks, embody the charm and craftsmanship of the Dutch Renaissance. The hoisting beam and ornamental anchors on the facade are distinctive features. These wrought iron anchors were originally used to reinforce the walls while also enhancing the building’s aesthetic appeal. The symmetrical windows with white-framed casings and the subtle use of yellow brick accents add a refined harmony to the overall design. This type of facade is an authentic representation of the practical yet stylish architecture that has made Amsterdam famous worldwide. It tells the story of a city that had to build with functionality in mind while also valuing elegance and durability.
The bright through-living room is located at the front and offers a lovely view of the charming street. Thanks to the large windows at both the front and rear, plenty of natural daylight enters, creating a bright and pleasant atmosphere. There is ample space for both a seating and dining area. The open kitchen with a cooking island is situated in the center of the home, with enough space for the dining area at the rear. The kitchen is functional and equipped with built-in appliances, including a fridge-freezer combination, oven, dishwasher, coffee machine, gas cooktop, and extractor hood. The permit for the balcony has already been granted.
In total, the apartment has two bedrooms, with the possibility of creating a third. On the fourth floor, there are two spacious bedrooms, with the master bedroom located at the rear. This bedroom perfectly fits a double bed and also includes a storage closet. The second bedroom also offers enough space for a double bed and a wardrobe. The bathroom is accessible from the hallway and features a walk-in shower, toilet, double sink with vanity unit, and an electric towel radiator.

Four years ago, we found this magical home in the Jordaan, and from the very first moment, we knew: this was it. An oasis of tranquility in the heart of a vibrant neighborhood. What immediately enchanted us was the light: it streams in from all four directions, constantly offering new views. Whether we’re looking out over the characteristic Jordaan rooftops, the stately Noorderkerk, the Posthoornkerk, or the A’DAM Tower in the distance, it never gets old. Our home is fortunate to have unobstructed views on all sides. The cherry on top is the upcoming addition of the balcony—something we will truly miss. As avid runners, we will also miss the proximity to the Westerpark; from our front door, it’s just 800 meters to the entrance. In this unique location, the city feels close yet wonderfully far away at the same time. We have cherished everything that makes this house so special. The soft patter of rain on the slanted roof, lulling us to sleep. The atmosphere of the neighborhood, where just one step outside immerses us in the vibrant Jordaan life. With favorite spots like Café Thijssen, De Linden, and Toscanini literally around the corner, and the Saturday Noordermarkt as a weekly ritual, we have truly enjoyed every moment here. This is a home and a neighborhood that we have deeply taken to heart. Moving was never really part of the plan. We are incredibly happy in this house. But then, an unexpected opportunity arose: a corner house in a former telephone exchange, which we instantly fell in love with. And so, with a heavy heart, we have decided to let go of this special home. It holds so many wonderful memories, and we hope that the new owners will enjoy this unique place as much as we have.
