What the residents will miss
"This house is special to us because, first of all, we became a 'family' here. Secondly, this house is special to us because we built it 'ourselves'. We bought the house in 2019 and lived here in its original state from September 2019 to February 2020
In February 2020, we started a large-scale renovation, and in 2021, we moved back into our house, which we created to our own taste.
We prefer to sit on the ground floor on the garden side. This is because it is the lightest place in the house with the beautiful large sliding glass doors and the skylights in the extension.
Neighborhood Guide
Two hundred years ago, the site where Museumplein now stands was still home to farms. To create more living space, construction of the Museum Quarter began here at the start of the last century. The influence of architect Cuypers is evident; in addition to the first residences , he residences designed the Rijksmuseum in the Neo-Gothic style. This period is beautifully captured in Thomas Rosenboom’s *Publieke Werken*. Together with the Concertgebouw in the Neo-Renaissance style, this building defines the character of the neighborhood.
With the arrival of the Van Gogh Museum, Gerrit Rietveld’s contemporary architecture also came to Museumplein. The selection of restaurants, cafés, and shops is as eclectic as the architectural styles and fits perfectly with the neighborhood’s international allure. Haute couture connoisseurs and shoppers can visit P.C. Hooftstraat for fashion houses such as Burberry, Ba&sh, and Isabel Marant Étoile. The great thing about this neighborhood is that the City Center, De Pijp, and Amsterdam Zuid—including Vondelpark—are all within walking distance.

The building
The apartment is located on Cornels Anthoniszstraat, named after Cornelis Anthonisz. Cornelis Anthonisz (Amsterdam, ca. 1505 – 1553), also known as Anthonissen or Teunissen, was a Dutch printmaker, cartographer, and painter. Anthonisz was a grandson of Jacob Cornelisz. van Oostsanen, who was probably also his teacher, and a cousin of Dirck Jacobsz. In 1538, he painted the first complete and (relatively) accurate map of Amsterdam on behalf of the city as a gift for Emperor Charles V. He is best known for his woodcuts. His most famous woodcut is the Vogelvluchtkaart van Amsterdam (Bird's-eye view of Amsterdam) from 1544, which was printed using 12 blocks. This woodcut was very popular and was reprinted well into the seventeenth century, resulting in several versions, such as one with a Gothic initial D in the upper right corner, one with a Latin initial D decorated with plant motifs, and one with a Latin initial D depicting King David. He also made many portraits of monarchs and allegorical prints. Only two paintings can be attributed to him with certainty, both of which have been given on permanent loan to the Amsterdam Museum by the city of Amsterdam. According to the legend on his Vogelvluchtkaart, he lived "behind the Nieuwe Kerk" in "de Schrijvende handt" (the Writing Hand). A facade stone with a writing hand on it was the distinguishing mark of writers, booksellers, and mapmakers.
Living and cooking
The ground floor has its own entrance with a porch and a wardrobe with storage space. At the front is the open kitchen with a cooking island, equipped with various built-in appliances from Miele. The kitchen is finished in a luxurious dark color scheme. On the garden side is the living room with a cozy gas fireplace and double sliding doors to the sunny garden. Both the ground floor and the basement have underfloor heating.
Sleeping and bathing
The open staircase leads to the first floor, where there is a spacious landing with a toilet. At the front of the house is the master bedroom with a charming French balcony. At the rear is currently a spacious second bedroom that can easily be divided into two children's rooms. The central bathroom is equipped with a bathtub, spacious shower, and double sink. There are also two bedrooms in the basement, each with its own en suite bathroom. The bedroom at the rear has a walk-in closet and the bathroom has a walk-in shower, double sink, and toilet. The bedroom at the front has a bathroom with a walk-in shower and sink. On this floor, there is also a laundry room with connections for a washing machine and dryer, and a separate toilet. It is possible to install a skylight in the floor of the ground floor, creating extra light in the bedroom in the basement.
The garden
The sunny 32 m² south-facing garden is a peaceful haven in the middle of the bustling city. A lovely place to relax and enjoy the warm sunshine. There are also two balconies on the first floor: a French balcony at the front and a balcony of approximately 5 m² at the rear, adjacent to the bedroom.
