Brouwersgracht 78-17

De Brouwer
During my first visit, I stood on the sidewalk for a while chatting with a local resident, while admiring the façade. I am very familiar with this location, because my sister lived two doors down in the 1970s. For me, this was a kind of first introduction to Amsterdam and life on the canals. This part of the Brouwersgracht has a special meaning for my relationship with Amsterdam. When the owner let me in, I was Immediately struck by Immediately high, light-filled space and the excellent state of repair. During the introduction and tour, the owner showed me around the house, and I was repeatedly impressed by the high quality of the renovation. The owner was working in the study, and I imagined that working here would be conducive to concentration. All Rooms other Rooms equally impressive, and the higher I went, the more light there was. It is therefore an honor for us to be able to assist the owners in the sale of this property.

Cooking and living
The quality of the kitchen-diner starts with the place where it is situated. With light and a view of the patio, the kitchen is located on a raised area. From here and from the adjacent dining area you have a beautiful view of the canal. The kitchen is complete and modern, with attention to small details. The floor is covered with square Belgian hard stone tiles, the cabinets and drawers have a light soft gray tint and the kitchen top is made of granite, with a hard stone sink with a Quooker tap. The kitchen is arranged in such a way that you can cook well here. With a large counter in which a semi-professional Viking stove is placed, which has two ovens and six large burners, everything is available to cook extensively. In addition, the kitchen has a built-in double American refrigerator/freezer from Sub Zero and a professional Miele dishwasher. The vestibule with extra height is actually part of the space of the kitchen-diner and is connected to a stately staircase. This part is also used as part of a large party or dinner. On a warm summer evening, this part of the house is ideal for indoor/outdoor dining. The house has two living spaces, with a period room in the back house and a spacious, bright living room with three windows on the canal on the first floor. The period room in the back house has been beautifully restored and has retained its old grandeur, and is in perfect condition. The room has the atmosphere of an old study and is intimate. From the room, through a large window and the light court, you have a view of the kitchen and even the canal. The room is nicely square and has a large gas fireplace. Next to the fireplace are large built-in bookcases. The original wide wooden floorboards from the seventeenth century and the plastered ornamental ceiling have been very nicely restored. The current residents use this room as a study and office, but the room is also suitable for use as a sitting room or lounge. On the first floor of the house is a large room en suite that is now used as a sitting room. With three windows over the full width on the south, this room is light all year round. There is a beautiful view over the canal and on the bridge to the Keizersgracht. This part of the canal has no houseboats on the other side, so you have an unobstructed view of the water and the buildings on the other side. The sun that falls on the water creates a beautiful reflection on the walls and ceiling. This room has a wood fireplace, which together with the windows divided into panes determine the atmosphere. The back room of the room en suite could also be used as a Bedroom.

De Belhamel

This restaurant distinguishes itself in terms of both location and interior. The restaurant and the bar (a real speakeasy) both have a romantic Parisian Art Nouveau atmosphere. French-inspired classics enhance this unique identity with tarte tatin of shallots, silver onions, blue cheese and mustard caramel or pain perdu of brioche with yogurt-orange ice cream. In the summer you can sit on the terrace on the Brouwersgracht.

Café de Vrouw met de Baard

De Vrouw met de Baard - the name alone is reason enough to pop in here sometime. Entirely with its own merchandise, its own sambal and soul cookbook and playlist, the eatery in the center is making its mark on the Indonesian/Moluccan cuisine. Even though the Rendang is the dish for which people come from miles around, the vegetarian alternatives with jackfruit and eggplant are also more than worth it. The living room-like atmosphere gives the whole a real family feeling, which according to the owners themselves is exactly the purpose of soul and comfort food!

The location of this restaurant, on the Noordermarkt (the former location of Bordewijk), is of course unsurpassed.

Linguini

Simplicity is essential in Italian cuisine: as long as the ingredients are good, you don't need much. “Less is more”. They understand that well at Linguini in the Herenstraat. The interior exudes the Italian dolce vita feeling: attractive old tiles and a beautiful long sofa as an eye-catcher: Linguini is a cozy and warm trattoria, with attention to detail. The menu is small and mainly consists of pasta. You can order this either in a small portion (for one person), or in Italian style in a large pan for the ‘famiglia’. So, pasta, pasta, pasta. All prepared with love and passion by the Italian ‘pasta maestro’ named Lorenzo Isidoro.

You can shop on the cozy Noordermarkt on Monday morning and Saturday. Originally, the Noordermarkt was a pots, pans and patches market, where people in the 17th century mainly bought everyday objects. Today you can buy everything such as antiques, jewelry, paintings, glass and crockery, books and prints and lots of vintage clothing. On Saturday morning there is also an organic market where you can buy fresh organic vegetables, fruit, bread, cheese, herbs, fish, honey and many other products. The market people are sometimes still true Amsterdammers with a strong accent and a board full of corny humor. You won't find such a variety of products at any other market in Amsterdam; the market has so much to offer that you can easily stroll around for a whole day.

Sukha

Sukha means 'joy of life' in Sanskrit, and that joy is reflected in the beautifully decorated, light-filled building on Haarlemmerstraat in Amsterdam. The label, Atelier Sukha, uses only the purest, most natural materials such as wool, linen, cotton, clay, and cashmere. These pure materials are incorporated into all the beautiful products the store offers: a range from women's clothing to interior design and art objects. Fun fact: many of the unique items are made in Nepal.
