What the owners will miss
We purchased this conveniently designed family home when our youngest daughter was on the way. This is where the sisters spent their early years, climbing stairs and hiding in countless hidden corners. They would either head to the Noorderspeeltuin playground around the corner or go to the supermarket where they could do their own shopping, because there is always someone looking out for you in this street with its friendly neighbors who are there for each other.
Our memories are filled with many evenings spent with friends at the long table, with the doors open to the garden in summer—the light playing on the ochre-yellow wall. We will miss the benches under the windows at the front of the house. On Saturdays, we would read the newspaper there in the first spring sunshine, with fresh croissants from the Noordermarkt at the end of the street. We will also miss the study, which offers light, sun, and space for working from home. And what's more, it has such a pleasant wide windowsill, where we regularly sat making phone calls while watching what was happening in our street. Or where we enjoyed the peace and quiet of the street, where the hustle and bustle of the cozy café De Blaffende Vis and Noordermarkt seem miles away.
Our house full of color, light, and history. On warm summer evenings, we would read in bed, with the windows open and a view of the big green pear tree that bends over the Roof terrace. The neighbors' cat would dart away when the bird in the tree stirred. Our youngest daughter never wanted to get out of the bath in the cozy little bathroom we had installed in the house. And so on.
Now it's time to go, but not without a sense of melancholy about a time that, as life goes, will never return—in a modest, super charming house that is ready for new residents with their own experiences and memories.
