What the owners will miss

For over 25 years, we lived at Number on the ground floor. It was a wonderful place, with a living room spanning the entire width of the building, adjacent to the sunny Rear garden. The neighbors behind us were far away, and there were deep gardens with a chestnut tree in the middle. We really enjoyed that place.
During a major renovation, we recreated that sunny, spacious living room with open kitchen across the entire width of the building, overlooking greenery, in the apartment that is now being offered on the first floor. Where the sun shines into the room even in winter. And in summer, drinking coffee in the sun on the balcony: that is an unbeatable pleasure.
We came here as a couple, became parents here, and enjoyed our neighborhood, with the beautiful name Duivelseiland. An oasis on the border of De Pijp. For culture, we turned left towards the Concertgebouw and the museums. More often, we turned right and headed into De Pijp with its countless shops, restaurants, toko's, and the Albert Cuyp market.
We now live outside the city, with peace and space for us and our animals. In the run-up to the sale of this apartment, we still regularly and happily stay on the first floor. In the sunny apartment with its beautiful balcony, we are as happy as we used to be. Together we go out to visit the familiar and many new (culinary) places: what a choice, everything is so close by, and what a lovely place.

Breadwinner Too

Breadwinner Bagels was founded by Jon Fairclough, who translated his love of artisan baking into hand-rolled sourdough bagels with his own signature. What started in the Jordaan neighborhood grew into a beloved concept with multiple locations, including this branch in De Pijp. The kitchen focuses on natural ingredients and bagels baked fresh daily, combined with creative and classic toppings.

Café Loetje

In 1977, Café Loetje was established as a billiards café by Ludwig 'Loetje' Klinkhamer, but it wasn't long before they traded the billiards for the tenderloin steak that was served. More than forty years later, Loetje is a huge chain, and the original 'Café' is a household name in Amsterdam. The tasty steak is served with homemade fries and fresh gravy - it's finger-licking good!

Café Wildschut is located on Roelof Hartplein and is an ideal base for a drink. It is especially nice in the summer, as the terrace is sunny from early morning until evening. Because the café is located on a square, there is always activity. The café is housed in a monumental building of the Amsterdam School style and has a cosmopolitan interior with 1920s elements. It attracts a mixed crowd and has been a household name among Amsterdammers for decades. You can also come here for breakfast, lunch, and dinner.

Boss bike

Sjefietshe is a cevicheria in the center of De Pijp, with a beautiful terrace offering plenty of space. For anyone unfamiliar with this delicious South American dish: the classic Peruvian appetizer consists of raw (white) fish that has been "cooked" in lime juice. The dish is served with chili, cilantro, red onion, and an ocean of lime. An overwhelming taste sensation and therefore difficult to match. Sjefietshe makes a good attempt and creates its own version with Amsterdam flair. In addition to ceviches with different types of fish, there is also the option to enjoy tasty bites, including the Sjefietshe special: their own invention, the 'hot dog octopus'. Enough reasons to stop by and decide for yourself whether the restaurant succeeds in transporting you to higher South American spheres!

A good example of this are the Zeeland cockles in a creamy white wine sauce finished with Parisienne herbs and parsley. Bisou!

Chicken yakitori with kaffir lime and chillies. Chicken wings stuffed with shrimp tartare and a shiitake sauce. Roasted cabbage with fried onion and hollandaise sauce. And, of course, the now famous chicken sandwiches in all kinds of variations, such as Sichuan spiced fried chicken with pickles and garlic mayonnaise served on a sake kasu brioche bun. KID serves cocktails, beer, and a small selection of wines to accompany the food.

Layers Bakery

Layers is a bakery and deli in Amsterdam, founded by French pastry chef Alexandre Scour, who translates his craftsmanship into a place where everything is built up layer by layer. In the mornings, the open pastry lab is in full swing, producing buttery croissants, viennoiserie, and patisserie that are made entirely in-house. In the afternoon, the focus shifts downstairs, where the deli serves fresh sandwiches with the same dedication to quality and detail. The concept revolves around unadorned craftsmanship, with food that is prepared with precision and attention.

Renzo's Delicatessen

Renzo’s Delicatessen is all about homemade, culinary and Italian products. All dishes are made fresh here every day. In addition to Renzo’s classics, there is also a varied menu. For some, Renzo’s is a neighborhood store and for others a place to have lunch or dinner. You can also go there for groceries, an Italian take-away menu or a sandwich. And especially the Dino sandwich: ground beef or warm chicken thighs with the infamous dinosaus, sun mayo, arugula and sun-dried tomatoes.
