Nemo

Museum Nemo is perhaps the most surprising and fun museum that Amsterdam has to offer. Nemo is a science museum but in a very playful way. You can test all kinds of physical and chemical things, do it yourself, view and learn a lot. This museum is a great pleasure for young and old. Tip: In the summer, have a drink on the roof of Nemo and look out over the IJ and Amsterdam!

The BIMHUIS

The BIMHUIS was founded in 1974 by a group of jazz musicians who felt Amsterdam lacked a venue for jazz music. An old furniture store was transformed into a stage, which they called the 'BIMHUIS'. It became a well-known venue among musicians and also provided a stage for up-and-coming talent. Over the years, it has developed into an internationally renowned venue for jazz and improvised music. Many jazz legends have performed there, including Art Blakey, Charles Mingus, and Archie Shepp. The current location opened in 2005 on the Piet Heinkade. It is an intimate venue where jazz music comes into its own. There is also a café and restaurant with a beautiful view over the IJ river.

Maritime Museum

Discover the shipping and maritime history of the Netherlands in the Maritime Museum. The museum is located in the water on the Oosterdok; this building was formerly used as a warehouse for the storage of ship equipment and cannons when Amsterdam was the largest port in the world. The collection includes paintings, ship models, maps, and weapons. It is the second largest maritime museum in the world. In the water in front of the museum is a replica of the VOC ship 'Amsterdam'. In the barrel vaults under the courtyard, thousands of liters of water used to be stored to provide the ship's songs with water en route.

Scheepskameel is located in a former navy cooking school (on the waterfront!) on the former naval base. The wines are also available For Sale the (online) store Wijnkameel. The service is excellent, just like at its sister restaurant Rijsel.

Vermeer Restaurant

Many restaurants claim to give vegetables an important role. At Vermeer, this is truly the case. The kitchen has even been adapted to accommodate this. When the hotel restaurant was renovated a few years ago, chef Chris Naylor also made the switch to a somewhat lighter cuisine. There is still plenty of Location beautiful fresh and special meats, but a radish from the rooftop garden is just as likely to be served as an amuse-bouche. The restaurant is located in the NH Hotel Barbizon Palace, opened in 1988, and Gault Millau has awarded it 18 out of a maximum of 20 points.

In 't Aepjen

In the 16th century (the time of the Dutch East India Company), the cafe offered cheap accommodation to sailors. The sailors brought monkeys from overseas. These adorable monkeys were, of course, full of fleas, so everyone who stayed In 't Aepjen came out scratching from the itching. Allegedly, this is where the name of the cafe and the expression "in de aap gelogeerd zijn" (to be in the monkey's lodging, meaning to be in a bad situation) come from. Nowadays, you can still enjoy a drink and look around at all the relics that have been preserved.
