Designvision
The building at Potgieterstraat 45 is part of a characteristic early 20th-century row, constructed in the beloved Neo-Renaissance style that is so distinctive of Amsterdam Oud-West. The richly detailed façade — with alternating white-plastered bands, natural stone accents, and large windows — lends the property a stately appearance and contributes to the friendly character of the streetscape. The classic top floor with dormer windows gives the building a charming silhouette, visible from the water of the Da Costakade. This area, the Da Costabuurt, belongs to one of the most sought-after parts of Oud-West. Here, the vibrancy of the city blends seamlessly with the intimacy of a village atmosphere. Authentic architecture, tree-lined streets, and a wide range of cafés, speciality shops, and restaurants make it a cherished residential area for city dwellers who seek both tranquillity and liveliness.
Living and cooking
The residence is accessed via a shared staircase, with a private entrance on the first floor. From there, a private staircase leads to the third floor, where the living area fully unfolds. The living room extends across the front of the home and benefits from its western orientation. Three large windows offer a beautiful view over the water of the Da Costakade, allowing an abundance of natural light to fill the space. The fireplace serves as a charming focal point, lending warmth and an inviting atmosphere to the room. At the rear lies the open kitchen-dining area, with ample space for a generous dining table — ideal for long dinners or convivial evenings with guests. The kitchen is equipped with built-in appliances and designed with a focus on functionality, without compromising on aesthetics. The entire floor is finished with a warm wooden floor, creating a sense of cohesion and calm throughout the space. The residence also includes a basement with generous storage space.
Sleeping and bathing
On the fourth floor are two full-sized bedrooms and a comfortable bathroom. The main bedroom is located at the quiet front of the house and offers generous space, with room for a large bed and a substantial wardrobe wall. Thanks to its width and layout, this room can easily be divided into two separate bedrooms, as shown on the alternative floor plan. The second bedroom is situated at the rear and is equally spacious, with enough room for a double bed and a desk or wardrobe. An ideal space for guests, children, or as a home office. Centrally positioned on this level is the well-maintained bathroom, featuring a walk-in shower and double washbasin. A separate toilet is conveniently located off the landing, independent of the bathroom, enhancing everyday comfort and practicality.
The outside
Atop the residence lies a beautifully designed rooftop terrace of approximately 21 m². This outdoor space offers a spectacular view over the surrounding neighbourhood and the water of the Da Costakade. It is a place to enjoy the sun, tranquillity, and panoramic views in complete privacy, from sunrise to sunset. A seamless extension of the interior, where indoor and outdoor living flow effortlessly together and city life seems to pause for a moment.
