I assisted the current sellers with the purchase of the apartment in 2008. At the time, they were Immediately by the light and the beautiful view. After a major internal renovation to suit their tastes, they enjoyed living there for many years. After a period of latent interest in the housing market, an opportunity arose, which they seized. They are staying in the neighborhood because they are attached to the area.
For sixteen years, they enjoyed the unobstructed view, the abundant light, and the convenience of both the elevator and the garage, Immediately the apartment and accessible by elevator. What residents will miss
Walking along the waterfront of the Westerdok today, you might not realize it, but this is a historic area. It was created between 1830 and 1834 with the construction of the Westerdoksdam and the Westerdoksluis, with the aim of creating a reliable, deep harbor, closed off from the tides of the IJ. Initially, the Westerdok played an important role as a harbor and wet dock. After the opening of the North Sea Canal in 1876, the importance of the Westerdok declined, as this canal offered a more direct route to the North Sea. As a result, about half of the Westerdok was filled in.
Today, the Westerdok is a lively area with a nice mix of residences businesses. Everything is within walking distance. For daily shopping, Haarlemmerstraat/Haarlemmerdijk is a good place to go. There is also a wide range of nice boutiques and cookery shops, The Movies cinema, and various cafés and restaurants. Every Saturday, there is a large organic market on Noordermarkt, and at Winkel 43, you can get the most delicious coffee with apple pie. At IJdok, you can drink coffee with a beautiful view of the IJ at Bagels & Beans. Real foodies will enjoy restaurants such as Mos, Nomads aan het IJ, Atelier Wolf, Gossler & Florin, and De Gouden Reael.
We have enjoyed living at Westerdok 330 for 16 years. The apartment is spacious and has beautiful light thanks to the many windows on both the west and south sides. We still enjoy the view from the living room/kitchen onto the terrace and the wide water of the Westerdok every day. The trees along the street give Westerdok an almost village-like character. This is reinforced by the fact that it is not a thoroughfare for car traffic, so only local traffic passes through. Across the water, we look out over Bickerseiland, Realeneiland, and the marina. To the south, we see the Posthoornkerk, the Westertoren, and in winter, the Noorderkerk. To the north are the Pontsteiger and the IJ.
Our favorite place in the house is the spacious room overlooking the water (open kitchen, dining room, and living room) and the adjoining terrace. In the summer, we can always be found outside on the terrace, where the sun shines from noon until sunset.
