design vision
The architect of the building at Spinozastraat 15 was IJme Gerardus Bijvoets (Gzn), a Dutch architect who designed various buildings in Amsterdam and Westbeemster, as well as the Tivoli Wintertuin in Rotterdam. This unique ground floor apartment was completely and thoroughly renovated in 2020, including foundation repairs, new plumbing, electrical wiring, Bathrooms, kitchen, and more.
The renovation was carried out in collaboration with design agency Designwolf, known for their motto: "making the world a little bit more beautiful." This project a wonderful example of that. Designwolf strives to provide tailor-made solutions for their clients and creates spaces, places, and details that enrich life at home. They design functional elements that suit different situations throughout the day, with strategically placed vistas, voids, and windows creating a feeling of extra connection in the interior.
Living and cooking
The living room is elegantly divided into a sitting and dining area, separated by a subtle elevation. This elevation serves as a stylish partition and offers space for beautiful custom cabinets or an extra play area for the children. The sitting area is located at the front of the house, where the afternoon sun shines beautifully inside. From the sofa, there is a view of the quiet street and the water.
The custom-made kitchen beautifully combines design and functionality. The sturdy work/sink island with a cozy bar area forms the heart of the kitchen. The kitchen is equipped with modern appliances such as a built-in oven, combi-oven, stove, dishwasher, Quooker, and a fridge/freezer combination. The choice of various natural materials gives the kitchen a timeless look. The dining table, located near the kitchen, is where the family gathers to enjoy a meal.
A troweled concrete floor was chosen for the kitchen, while the living room has warm oak flooring in a herringbone pattern. Underfloor heating is installed throughout.
Next to the kitchen is the staircase to the sleeping area, a refined staircase with a high-quality finish that perfectly matches the rest of the interior.
Sleeping and bathing
The sleeping area is spacious and carefully designed with functionality in mind. During the renovation, the basement was deepened, resulting in an impressive ceiling height of 2.80 meters on average. The steel staircase, centrally located, connects the living room to this floor. Thanks to this strategic placement, all Rooms areImmediately and the landing is optimally used as office and storage space. Custom-made cupboards along various walls offer extra storage space for clothing and suitcases, among other things. The colors and materials blend seamlessly, creating a harmonious whole.
