In the17th century, the first Dutch architects returned from study trips to Italy. They were inspired by the formal language of classical antiquity and adapted it, with a sense of simplicity, to Dutch tastes and available building materials. The facades are reminiscent of temples, with columns, pilasters, moldings, and pediments, but the execution is more austere. More monumental. The classical ornaments were no longer spread across the entire facade, but limited to a few places.
Prinsengracht 858 is a national monument, a house with an early 18th-century facade and an upper floor and straight cornice from the second half of the 19th century. The door frame dates from the late 18th century. The facade of this national monument looks like a 'normal' canal house, but its entrance and staircase are spacious. A pleasant staircase in the middle of the building provides easy access to the third floor.
The living room, located on the canal side, offers a beautiful view that invites you to enjoy from the sofa and creates the ultimate feeling of living in the chic center of Amsterdam. With an impressive width of almost 6 meters on the water, this space not only provides a magnificent view but also an abundance of natural light. The layout offers various configuration options, allowing you to create a dining area in several places or a nice place to relax. You can enjoy a cozy dinner or sit by the window with a cup of coffee while enjoying the beautiful view of the canal. The wood-burning stove adds extra warmth and atmosphere, perfect for cold evenings at home.
The kitchen is subtly integrated behind a half wooden partition, maintaining the spacious feel while discreetly hiding items on the countertop from view. In a practical corner layout, the kitchen is equipped with a natural stone worktop and various (built-in) appliances, including a 4-burner gas stove with oven, refrigerator, and dishwasher. A built-in display cabinet adds an elegant piece of furniture to the space, beautifully blending functionality and aesthetics.
The entire apartment has light wooden flooring with sturdy wide planks, which contributes to the warm and inviting atmosphere.
