What we love most is the way our house makes you feel the moment you walk in: calm, grounded, enveloped in warmth. It has a quality that’s hard to put into words but is immediately felt. Much of that is thanks to our collaboration with our favorite Amsterdam-based interior designer, Janne Wellens, who specializes in wabi-sabi interiors. Every material and every finish was chosen with real intention. We feel most comfortable in the living and dining area, without a doubt. The large windows look out onto the courtyard and its greenery, and the space is filled with beautiful natural light throughout the day. It’s the kind of room you don’t want to leave. The neighborhood is genuinely green in a way that’s rare for a city. Tree-lined streets, a canal nearby, and Beatrixpark within walking distance: quiet, expansive, beautiful in every season. Practically speaking, Amsterdam Zuid station is a short walk away, and Stadionplein has everything you need day-to-day: Albert Heijn, a florist, and bakeries. The neighborhood attracts people who care about how they live, and it shows. In the area, we recommend Wils Bakery Café for breakfast or lunch (it holds a Bib Gourmand). Le Fournil for proper French bread. Coffee District on Olympiaplein for a good cappuccino. And Joe & The Juice for a quick stop on a busy morning. What we will miss most is the feeling of refuge it gave us throughout every season in Amsterdam. But also the process of creating it, working with Janne and our carpenter to bring the apartment to life exactly as we had envisioned it. Every detail was carefully considered: the material of the kitchen counter, the fabric of the cabinet doors and curtains, the eggshell tone of the walls, the choice of wood. Nothing was left to chance. You can feel that when you’re in it, and that’s something we’re proud of.
