Design vision

Five new residential complexes have been built around two existing buildings on the bend leading to the Cruquius site. The Sigma factory building, the largest old building in the area, has been preserved to keep history visible in the transformation of this industrial environment.
The monument conservation authorities advocated for a dominant position for the main building, which meant that it had to remain visible as the most important volume upon entering Cruquius. In addition, the authentic paint factory behind the factory has been preserved because of its significance for the scale and atmosphere of the area. This has created a coherent whole in which the functional architecture of the factory has influenced the surrounding buildings.

Krux brewery

Cruquiuseiland used to be one large shipyard. Now, only one brewery remains. It's a place where beer is brewed and where you can also come and drink. According to some, it's the smallest brewery in Amsterdam. This has two advantages: the small batches make it easy to experiment with recipes, and the beer is always super fresh!

Museum Perron Oost

With a Floor area 6 m2, Museum Perron Oost in the Eastern Docklands is perhaps the smallest museum in the world. In 1993, artist and designer Joep van Lieshout transformed the former cattle market platform into a mini park, complete with an empty freight car. It shows the past 150 years of history of this part of the city: there are stories of cattle traders, circus parades, liner services to Indonesia, Suriname, and the United States, Jewish refugees, young delinquents, squatters, and urban nomads. Since 2013, Museum Perron Oost has been telling the stories of old and new local residents in the form of theater, film, dance, music, visual arts, or combinations thereof. The museum on the platform also hosts exhibitions about different periods in the history of the Eastern Docklands.
