Jeroen never lets the hectic nature of the business get him down
‘I facilitate the day-to-day business for our team, allowing them to better serve clients,’ says Jeroen. His job is incredibly multifaceted, ranging from human resources to IT. ‘At the moment, we are digitalising our paper files and implementing a new process in the front office, so clients can get answers faster. With digital tools, there are so many solutions that can make communication even better.’
Jeroen studied Business Administration at post-grad level in Amsterdam. He loves that in his job, no two days are alike, and it is always full of surprises. ‘I usually plan two things to do, the rest of the day I respond to whatever circumstances arises.’ It can be hectic at Broersma sometimes, but Jeroen always stays calm and level-headed. ‘I usually quietly listen in meetings, and at the end, I ask: “OK, who’s going to do what now?” That’s when things really get done.’
He lives just outside Amsterdam and sees the city from a different perspective on his runs home as an ultra-runner. ‘From Vondelpark, I run through the canal district and the city centre, take the ferry to Noord with all its new buildings, and then run home along the North-Holland Canal and through Twiske nature preserve.’
Jeroen loves the architecture of the EYE Film Museum, especially the sweeping entryway staircase, where you can sit with a view of the River IJ. When he is in the mood for a drink, he goes to one of Amsterdam’s first specialty beer breweries, Brouwerij Het IJ, which got its start in a squat. Brouwerij Het IJ now has a tasting room in Het Blauwe Theehuis in Vondelpark, while the brewery itself has long been located next to a picturesque windmill in Amsterdam Oost. ‘I like having a “De Zatte”, their best beer, out on the pavement café there.’
