Studio O.L. 20
The property at Oude Looiersstraat 20 is a splendid example of an authentic building where the current owner still works on the ground floor and resides above. This is becoming increasingly rare in the center of Amsterdam, as such buildings are usually divided into multiple apartments. This offers new owners numerous possibilities for using the property, either as a complete living space or for another purpose.
Currently, the ground floor is used as a photo studio by the current owner, but this space could also be converted into a living and cooking area. Bedrooms can then be created on the three upper floors. Additionally, there is the option to maintain the current use and have a private office or gallery on the ground floor, while living above.
The property took its current form around 1900 and was subsequently rearranged in the 1980s to its present state.
Overall, this is a unique property with various potential uses.

Design vision
The architecture of Oude Looiersstraat in Amsterdam beautifully reflects the rich history and cultural heritage of the city. The street is a harmonious blend of various architectural styles, primarily from the 17th and 18th centuries, with some later additions. Renowned for its narrow, deep-set canal houses with impressive facades, the street offers a striking sight. Step gables, bell gables, and neck gables are common and characteristic of Amsterdam’s Golden Age architectural style. The use of brick, often combined with sandstone accents around windows and doors, dominates the construction. The brick facades are sometimes adorned with ornaments and facade stones indicating the original function or occupants of the house. Many houses bear facade stones with inscriptions or images referring to the profession of the original inhabitants, such as tanners. These stones offer a fascinating insight into the history and use of the buildings. Decorative elements such as graceful door frames, sculpted consoles, and wrought iron fences adorn the facades, while traditional saddle roofs with tiles dominate the skyline. Skylights and dormer windows are often added to create additional space and light. Inside the houses, original wooden beams are often visible, adding an authentic and historical atmosphere. High ceilings with plasterwork and decorative moldings contribute to a sense of space and elegance. Many of the buildings on Oude Looiersstraat have been carefully restored to preserve their historic character, including original facades, windows, and doors, as well as internal features such as staircases and floors. Some buildings have undergone modern adaptations, such as new windows or skylights, while maintaining their historical appearance. With its narrow street and tall, characteristic houses, Oude Looiersstraat exudes an intimate, almost picturesque atmosphere, aided by the cobblestone paving that contributes to the historical ambiance. Oude Looiersstraat offers an intriguing overview of traditional Amsterdam architecture, where historical charm and modern livability coexist. Both residents and visitors cherish this beloved place, where careful restorations preserve the unique historical value while the street adapts to the needs of contemporary urban lifestyle.
