What the residents will miss
"For us, this house is special because firstly, we became a 'family' here. Secondly, this house is special to us because we 'built' it ourselves. We purchased the house in 2019 and lived here in its original state from September 2019 to February 2020. In February 2020, we began the extensive renovation, and in 2021, we moved back into our house, which we had created according to our own taste. We prefer to be on the ground floor on the garden side. This is because it's the brightest spot in the house with the beautiful large sliding glass doors and skylights in the extension.
Neighborhood
Where the Museumplein is now located, there were farms 200 years ago. To create more living space, the construction of the Museumkwartier began here at the beginning of the last century. Architect Cuypers' hand is recognizable, as he designed not only the first homes but also the Rijksmuseum in neo-Gothic style. This period is beautifully described in Thomas Rosenboom's 'Publieke Werken.' Together with the Concertgebouw in neo-Renaissance style, this building defines the character of the neighborhood. With the arrival of the Van Gogh Museum, the contemporary architecture of Gerrit Rietveld also came to the Museumplein. The range of restaurants, cafes, and shops is as eclectic as the architectural styles and fits perfectly with the international allure of the district. Haute couture connoisseurs and buyers can visit fashion houses like Burberry, Ba&sh, and Isabel Marant Étoile on P.C. Hooftstraat. The pleasant aspect of this neighborhood is that the Center, De Pijp, and Amsterdam Zuid - with the Vondelpark - are all within walking distance.

The building
The apartment is located on Cornels Anthoniszstraat, named after Cornelis Anthonisz. Cornelis Anthonisz (Amsterdam, ca. 1505 – 1553), also known as Anthonissen or Teunissen, was a Dutch printmaker, cartographer, and painter.
Anthonisz was a grandson of Jacob Cornelisz. van Oostsanen, who was likely also his teacher, and a cousin of Dirck Jacobsz. In 1538, he painted the first complete and relatively accurate map of Amsterdam commissioned by the city as a gift for Emperor Charles V. He is best known for his woodcuts. His most famous woodcut is the Bird’s Eye View Map of Amsterdam from 1544, printed with 12 blocks. This woodcut was very popular and was reprinted well into the seventeenth century, resulting in several versions, including one with a gothic initial D in the top right corner, one with a Latin initial D adorned with plant motifs, and one with a Latin initial D featuring a depiction of King David.
Additionally, he created many portraits of rulers and allegorical prints. Only two paintings can be securely attributed to him, both of which are on permanent loan from the city of Amsterdam to the Amsterdam Museum. According to the legend on his Bird’s Eye View Map, he lived “behind the Nieuwe Kerk” in “de Schrijvende handt” (the Writing Hand). A facade stone with a writing hand on it was the hallmark of writers, booksellers, and mapmakers.
Living and cooking
The ground-floor apartment features its own entrance with a vestibule and a wardrobe closet with storage space. At the front is the open kitchen with a kitchen island, equipped with various built-in appliances from Miele. The kitchen is finished in a luxurious dark color scheme. At the rear is the living room with a cozy gas fireplace and a double sliding door leading to the sunny garden. Both the ground floor and the basement are equipped with underfloor heating.
Sleeping and bathing
The open staircase leads to the first floor, where you’ll find a spacious landing with a toilet. At the front of the house is the master bedroom with a charming French balcony. At the rear is currently a spacious second bedroom that can easily be divided into two children’s rooms. The central bathroom is equipped with a bathtub, spacious shower, and double sink.
In the basement, there are also two bedrooms, each with its own en-suite bathroom. The bedroom at the rear features a walk-in closet, and the bathroom is equipped with a walk-in shower, double sink, and toilet. The bedroom at the front has a bathroom with a walk-in shower and sink. This floor also houses a laundry room with connections for a washer and dryer, as well as a separate toilet.
There is the possibility to install a skylight in the floor of the ground level, allowing for additional natural light to illuminate the bedroom in the basement.
The garden
The sunny south-facing garden spanning 32 m² offers a peaceful oasis in the midst of the vibrant city. It’s a delightful spot to unwind and bask in the warm sunlight. Additionally, there are two balconies on the first floor. A French balcony at the front and a balcony of approximately 5 m² at the rear, adjacent to the bedroom.
